Yaroslavl State University P.G. Demidov
Yaroslavl State University is one of the youngest and at the same time one of the oldest universities in Russia. Being founded twice – in 1918 and in 1970, it considers the beginning of its history to be the year 1803, when Alexander I at the instance and on the money of the famous landlord and entrepreneur P.G. Demidov founded the School of Higher Sciences in a provincial city on the Volga river, later changed into Demidov Law Lyceum, and later– into Yaroslavl State University.
Today P.G. Demidov Yaroslavl State University is a leading higher educational institution in the Upper-Volga region with 7800 students. It is a classical multi-discipline educational institution training students in 70 majors (on bachelor’s and master’s programs).
The teaching process is provided by a professional team of lecturers and instructors, most of them having the degree of candidates and doctors of science. Students can continue education at a post-graduate school for a candidate’s and doctor’s degree in more than 40 majors.
The development of fundamental science has always been a top-priority task for the university. Topical research works are funded by the federal budget, Russian state foundations, and international organizations. The university has recognized scientific schools in many fields of science. The university academics regularly participate in scientific conferences, symposiums, and workshops of different levels. Students and post-graduates take an active part in scientific research.

THE ECONOMICS FACULTY
The Economics Faculty opened in 1971 and is now one of the important centers for preparing highly qualified specialists for the regional economy. It is a modern university structure with an eminently qualified team of professors and teachers having academic degrees and titles.
The faculty prepares specialists in specialties: Accounting, Analysis, and Auditing; World Economy; Finances and Credit giving the qualification “An Economist” and Organization Management giving the qualification “A Manager”.
The faculty contains the Department of Accounting and Audit, the Department of Economic Analysis and Information Science, the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, the Department of World Economy and Statistics, and the Department of Finances and Credit. The faculty has an office with literature on teaching and teaching methods.
INFORMATION AND COMPUTER SCIENCE
Information and Computer Science Faculty was opened in 1986.
It prepares bachelor’s, master’s, and PhDs in the area of programming and information technologies.
The faculty contains five departments:
- Computing and Programming Department;
- Discrete Analysis Department;
- Theoretical Informatics Department;
- Networks Department;
- Information and Network Technologies.
Two laboratories work at the faculty:
- Educational-Research Laboratory of Digital Processing of Signals and Images;
- International Delaunay Laboratory “Discrete and Computational Geometry” (the grant of the RF government, was founded together with the scientists of the Mathematics Faculty, the head of the project – an Austrian professor Herbert Edelsbrunner);
INSTITUTE FOR DIGITAL AND INSTRUCTIONAL SYSTEMS DESIGN
The purpose of the Institute for Digital and Instructional Systems Design is the development of the digital educational environment of YarSU, the use and implementation of modern methods of organizing educational activities based on e-learning and distance learning technologies.
The Institute creates and maintains digital educational resources for YarSU, and, together with other divisions of YarSU, develops and implements continuing education programs aimed at improving competencies in various fields and areas of professional activity, as well as individual educational projects using available digital resources (educational platforms).
A separate task of the Institute is to help teachers and students in the development and use of basic digital skills by the model of new foundational skills of the digital economy.
THE BIOLOGY AND ECOLOGY FACULTY
The Biology and Ecology Faculty was opened on June 3 1981 by order # 318 of the Minister of Higher and Secondary Education of the R.S.F.S.R. According to this order the Faculty of Biology and Psychology was divided into Biology and Psychology Faculties. The Biology and Ecology Faculty of YSU was the first one in Russia to prepare specialists in ecology (since 1994) and has great experience in this area.
At present, the faculty prepares broad specialists –biologists and ecologists. It contains the Morphology Department, the Ecology and Zoology Department, the Botany and Microbiology Department, the Human Physiology and Zoophysiology Department, the General and Bioorganic Chemistry Department, and also a greenhouse, a vivarium, a zoological museum and a stationary bio-station “Uleima” in a picturesque place of Uglich Region.

CENTER FOR SPORTS AND HEALTH OF YARGU (SPORTS CLUB)
The main goal of the sports club is to assist in the preparation of comprehensively developed specialists for productive work in their chosen profession, able to use and implement physical culture and sports in the conditions of educational and production activities, organization and promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
THE OBJECTIVES OF THE SPORTS CLUB ARE:
Involvement of students, graduate students, teachers, university staff, and their families in systematic physical education and sports
Education of physical and moral-volitional qualities, health promotion and reduction of morbidity, increase in the level of professional preparedness, social activity of all members of the sports club
Interaction with the university administration, trade unions, and other public organizations to develop students’ necessary professional knowledge, skills, abilities, and qualities, high citizenship, and morality
Organization and holding of mass physical culture and health and sports events
Creation and development of sports amateur associations, sections, and teams by sports
Agitation and propaganda of physical culture and sports, a healthy lifestyle, organization of meaningful leisure, involvement of members of the sports club in mass sports, recreation, and sports events

Location is probably the highlight of this hostel. It is within walking distance from the university.
BEDROOM AND BATHROOM
Brand new buildings. The rooms are quite large and spacious. On each floor, the bathrooms are located to the far left and right (easily accessible). Hot and cold water is available 24 hours for students.
COMMON AREA
There are common kitchens on the floor in which many students cook daily. The laundry operates on the first floor.
STADIUM
A good-sized and well-equipped gym.
SECURITY
For the safety of students, cameras monitor the campus of the dormitory, under the supervision of a supervisor on duty.
