Volga State Technical University

Volga Tech was established in 1932 to meet the need of a developing republic for specialists in Forestry Engineering and since then it has been growing and developing to train experts in a wide range of fields. Today Volga Tech is a modern university with over 9,000 students from Russia and abroad at 3 institutes (Institute of Forestry and Nature Management, Institute of Mechanics and Machine Building, Institution of Civil Engineering and Architecture) and five faculties: Faculty of Radio Engineering, Faculty of Information Technologies and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Social Studies, Faculty of Management and Law, and Faculty of Economics. The University is never satisfied with what has already been achieved and has been looking to the future for the country and the world (or keeping an eye on the big picture). As a result, Volga Tech is an internationally recognized university actively gathering up-to-date data, and developing cooperation with international universities to train the best specialists in the fields.

THE INSTITUTE OF CIVIL ENGINEERING AND ARCHITECTURE

The Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture was established on the 1st of March in 2015 and it includes 2 departments: the department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Environmental Engineering and Water Management.

The staff of the department fulfills research work for national and regional projects. New effective types of foundations and building structures are being developed for the republic construction companies. They also perform monitoring of construction quality, and testing of new building structures. A large scope of work falls at the evaluation of building and structure technical conditions as well as separate structural elements. This kind of evaluation is important for all companies possessing real estate objects as assets.

FACULTY OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING

The staff of the department does profound developments upon Russian and foreign companies’ requests. Among those are the creation of multimedia and hypermedia systems, protected local computing systems, teaching programs including those for distant education, automated control systems, techniques and facilities for image sensing in artificial intelligence systems, and software tools.

The Department possesses excellent facilities for studies. Research work inclines students to take a postgraduate course and there is a specialized Dissertation Board.

There is a lyceum of informatics and computer science technologies “Megatech” which is a part of the faculty. After graduation from the lyceum, the students get high school diplomas. The starting grade for students in this lyceum is the 10th grade.

FACULTY OF ECONOMICS

Studies and research are based on up-to-date technologies and information systems. Five lecture rooms with Internet access, a well-stocked library, and application of the latest software ensure a high level of education quality.

Research work is conducted against company orders, branch, and department programs, and grants. Among the research, work titles are the elaboration of business plans, financial enhancement plans of the enterprises, and organizational restructuring.

STUDENT SCIENTIFIC SOCIETY

Today SSS is a dynamically developing association. The student scientific society is actively working, which includes: coordinating the activities of representatives of student science, helping students to participate in scientific conferences, symposiums, seminars, and scientific congresses, providing all available information about upcoming conferences and grants, and of course SSS implements scientific – educational projects and events in Volgatekh.

In addition to the main activities of the SSS, it actively supports and interacts with many youth associations of our university and the Russian Federation.

SSS annually takes part in organizing events such as:

• Annual student scientific and technical conference “Youth and Science”
• Annual International Youth Scientific Conference on natural sciences and technical disciplines “Scientific progress creativity of the young”
• Annual All-Russian student forum “Engineering personnel – the future of Russia’s innovative economy”
• Annual scientific and educational forum of schoolchildren “My first step into science”
• Annual INTERNATIONAL INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE “VAVILOV READINGS”

STUDENT COMMUNITY

University offers engaging and diverse student communities at Volga Tech. We offer joining communities and interest clubs to students who have specific requirements, interests, or talents to help them fulfill their creativity and potential to complement their academic achievements. Students are welcome to get involved in a range of exciting events and activities at our university or to initiate a community or a club: every year there are more student clubs and communities established at Volga Tech so that everybody had a chance to find like-minded people, demonstrate talents and share interests.

HOSTEL

University offers hostel accommodation for students. The dormitory is a building of corridors and blocks system, and the rooms can be shared by 2-3 students.

the hostel provides everything a student needs for student life.

Quiet for study, decent living conditions, services for daily errands, and fun with fellow students. All rooms are equipped with necessary items (sheets, blankets, pillows, etc.).

Includes a study room with desk and chair, and printing and copying services.

Laundry, gym, and billiard room available.

The Reading Room has a lending library with 6480 manuals of scientific and methodological literature in English.

The dormitory has an isolation ward that provides hospital rooms to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
