The foundation of the University dates back to 1958 when the branch of the Moscow Institute of Electronic Machine Building was set up in Vladimir. In 1969 it was transformed into the Vladimir Polytechnical Institute. Due to further achievements in the development of material-technical resources, academic activities, and research the University has given the status of a Classical University in 1996. In 2002 the University became a full member of the Eurasian Association of Classical Universities.

Nowadays Vladimir State University is the leading educational establishment, center of science, and culture of the Vladimir region taking an active part in the country’s innovative educational program. Thousands of our graduates have become famous academic researchers, managers of large enterprises, scientific and educational institutions, and leading statesmen. This is achieved due to the staff consisting of highly qualified faculty members with 30-40 years of experience of work at the University.

At present, the main University’s goal is to be a modern, dynamic institution providing a high level of academic, scientific, and educational work.

INNOVATION DEVELOPMENT

Within the framework of the priority national project EDUCATION there were created the following scientific and education centers:

scientific center of physics and chemical methods of nanomaterials investigation;
scientific center of laser nanotechnologies;
laboratory of parallel / highly efficient calculations based on supercomputers;
education-production area for automatization of design-technological training machine-building products based on Information Support of lifetime products technologies;
the technological production area for manufacturing carbon materials/nanotubes;
the experimental production area for laser information technologies and production of semi-conducting laser rulers;
experimental range of bionanotechnologies, nano and ecology safety.

They are applied for:

microelectromechanical systems;
automated systems of micro and nano industry;
up-to-date technologies of water purification in industry and household using membrane components.

Institute combines business analytical skills with a pure engineering, precise and technical approach to solving professional problems.

The introduction of innovative teaching techniques, and the support of cultural and scientific traditions – allows the Institute to constantly expand the material and information base, diversify the leisure activities of students and carry out serious scientific and educational work.

Classes for students are held in modern classrooms equipped with multimedia and computer equipment. Students have the opportunity to study at the Microsoft Imagine Academy, Cisco Academy, and the 1C Center, which functions based on the Faculty, as well as to use in the learning process of the Google Academy.

INSTITUTE OF ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT

The degree curriculum equips students with a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of business management at a general level and four specialized levels to fully understand the concepts and terminology used in the field of business management.

Students can expect a hands-on education that emphasizes global reach when it comes to international and cultural understanding. Institute offers quality undergraduate and postgraduate programs grounded in our traditions of Faith, Service, Innovation, Truth, and Education. The mission to create global and socially conscious leaders is achieved through a combination of faculty empirical research and contemporary theoretical knowledge.

INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITY

International activity of Vladimir State University is one of the priority areas and aims at providing greater integration and cooperation with the international university community, strengthening the position and status of the University at the international level.

At present, Vladimir State University cooperates with 131 foreign partners: higher schools, international centers, and organizations.

Faculty members go to deliver lectures at the leading universities in Europe, Asia, America, and Africa. In return highly qualified foreign faculty members come to International conduct classes and carry out master classes.

Since 1978 the University has been training foreign students. At present about 600 students from 52 countries of the world study at Vladimir State University.

Students of the University take an active part in international scientific and educational programs, projects, and competitions.

RESEARCH

12 scientific schools carrying out research in 25 areas have been formed at the University. Scientific achievements of the University have been marked by gold, silver, and bronze medals at both international and federal levels. More than 40 international and Russian scientific conferences are held at the University every year.

Research is carried out in more than 20 scientific areas. According to the strategy of the University, development research must facilitate advances of society enabling it to meet its current and expected needs by generating new discoveries, inventions creating new technologies, and science-consuming innovation products.

Vision: VlSU is the scientific-research center of the world standard having the reputation of a leader due to new important scientific results. It actively disseminates new knowledge and solutions upon significant spheres of man`s activity.

One of the main University priorities in research is to carry out large complex Research and Development activities aimed at solving specific and important tasks of the country as well as the support of educational processes including innovation development based on existing information technologies.

The main focus in this respect is the provision of the high importance of research, its innovative character, the full use of obtained results in the academic process, wide involvement of students in research.

SOCIAL LIFE

Cultural, and sports activities and backing students’ creative initiatives are realized in different areas. The cultural center has been set up at the University. The most popular among students are the cinema club «Polytechnic», the theatre studio «Rhythm», and the musical ensemble «Jumbo Jazz».

Sport plays an important part in the social life of the University. Sports days are held yearly. The University has trained 7 Honoured Masters of Sport of international class, more than 100 Masters of Sport of the USSR and Russia, Europe, World and Olympic champions, thousands of highly-rated sportsmen and referees
