    INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONS

USMU is a recognized regional leader in the field of gene technologies. Today, the university has, through direct contracts with 17 leading research institutions, including the US National Institutes of Health (Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute), the largest collection of genetically engineered constructs with proven clinical efficacy. A number of state tasks are being carried out to develop gene therapy agents for the treatment of socially significant diseases, primarily for the treatment of cardiovascular pathology and oncology. Within the framework of the national project “Science” (development of advanced infrastructure), cellular and genetic technologies are being created that can compete with leading scientific centers. USMU is an associate member of the European Collection of Cell Cultures (ECACC) headquartered in the UK. The collection of cell cultures is also one of the most extensive in Russia. The university staff has developed and proven the effectiveness of cell therapy in relation to such diseases as neurotrophic ulcers of the lower extremities (diabetic foot), burns and frostbite, age-related skin changes, articular cartilage damage, and liver failure. The ongoing clinical trials comply with international requirements and are registered on the ClinicalTrials.gov portal. Foreign partners: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (USA, Boston), Johns Hopkins University (USA, Maryland), Cambridge Institute for Biomedical Research (UK), Groningen University Medical Center (Netherlands), Astana Medical University (Kazakhstan), Faculty of Medicine of the University of the City Belgrade (Serbia), University of Western Ontario (Canada).

The Department of Biomedical Physics and Bioengineering of USMU carries out joint research with the University of the Basque Country, Bilbao, Spain (Universidad del País Vasco UPV/EHU) to study the ultrastructure of materials for medical and biological purposes using SEM (scanning electron microscopy) high resolution.
