Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education “Tyumen State Medical University” of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation

Tyumen State Medical University was founded in 1963 as the Tyumen State Medical Institute. The first Rector (from 1963 to 1970.) MD, Professor E.A. Zhukov, was awarded with the Order of Red Banner of Labor.

In 1995, the Tyumen Medical Institute received status of the Academy (TyumGMA). Rector’s chair during this period (1977-1998 gg.) held the professor, member of the International Academy of Sciences Nikolai Fedorovich Zhvavyi.

Since 1998, university was headed by Edward A. Kaszuba – MD, Professor, Honored Worker of Science. Under the leadership of EA Kashuba TyumGMA t successfully passed a comprehensive assessment of the activities, confirming status of the Academy.

Since 2014 the university was headed by Irina Medvedeva-professor, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Honored Worker of Science.

In 2013, the Tyumen State Medical Academy celebrated i 50th anniversary. Since 1963 to the present time university has trained more than 25 thousand professionals. Almost all doctors of major medical institutions, managers in health care organizations in Tyumen and Kurgan regions and the Khanty-Mansiysk graduated from our university.

March 11, 2015 in accordance with order of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Tyumen State Medical Academy was renamed into Tyumen State Medical University.

The university traces three generations of teachers, doctors of sciences, “grown” in the walls of university. Since the late ’60s to the present time they have prepared 800 candidates of sciences and 200 doctors – not only for the Tyumen State Medical University, but also for other countries, and practical health care institutions.

Today Tyumen Medical University occupies a prominent place among the medical schools of the country, integrated into the international high school and medical science.

Higher proffessional education is implemented in 4 specialties (“Medicine”, “Pediatrics”, “Pharmacy”, “Stomatology”) and “Nursing” (bachelor).
According to the program of additional professional education for the academic year, about 6,000 people enrolled in the courses of training and retraining on 56 medical specialties.

Among the teachers of Tyumen State Medical University there are 127 doctors of sciences and 297 candidates of sciences, one academician.4 teachers have The title of Honored Worker of Science, 58 teachers have the title of Honored Doctor, honored health professionals of the Russian Federation. 5 employees were awarded with orders and medals of the Russian Federation.

The educational process is carried out in the five academic buildings, the clinical training of students of the university – on the basis of 24 medical institutions in Tyumen and the Tyumen region.

Among the facilities in university there are research library, clinic, the center of development of practical skills, computer testing center, anatomy museum and history museum, a publishing center.

The funds of scientific library – about 300 thousand copies of books and periodicals, electronic reading room, which offers access to 400 electronic books, including – author textbooks.

Preparation of the teaching staff is carried out in graduate school on 37 specialties. Since 1990, the university Dissertation Council on the field of “Internal Medicine”, “Pediatrics”, “Cardiology”. Since September 2014 opened a new dissertation council on the field of “Endocrinology”, “Human Anatomy”, “Cell biology, cytology, histology.”

International activities in the Tyumen State Medical University is conducted in the following areas: student exchange programs for graduate students and professors from among teaching staff, participation in international educational and research projects, participating in conferences and symposiums.

Since October 2012 Tyumen State Medical University is involved in the implementation of Tempus international educational project, which is funded by the European Union. Subjects of the project “Human Security: protection of the environment, food quality, public health in areas contaminated by radioactive substances.”

There are some international partners of Tyumen State Medical University which have signed cooperation agreements: Strasbourg University, Medical University of Astana, South Kazakhstan Pharmaceutical Academy, University of Debrecen (Hungary). Every year, the best students of the university participated in the summer school of clinical, congresses, international student exchange programs. So, in 2012, the best students of the medical faculty held a one-year training in France at the Medical Faculty of the University of Strasbourg.
