SOUTH URAL STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

South Ural State Medical University is a large higher education institution under federal authority, one of the leading medical universities of the Russian Federation with a powerful system of profound and clinical medical education.

South Ural State Medical University was founded in 1944 in the city of Chelyabinsk. University prepares students according to the programs of specialty, postgraduate studies, and residency.

The most important direction of the educational policy of the university is to improve the practical training of students, which can be easily implemented based on our own multi-functional clinic. Much attention is paid to the development and application of practical skills in simulated conditions, for which the university has high-tech sites equipped with modern robotic mannequins and realistic phantoms.

MEDICAL FACULTY

The Chelyabinsk Medical Institute was opened as part of one faculty (therapeutic and prophylactic) on July 1, 1944, by order of the People’s Commissariat of Health on June 29, 1944, based on the evacuated Kyiv Medical Institute.

At the medical faculty, training is carried out in the specialty “medical business”. All medical institutions in our region are almost one hundred percent staffed by our graduates. They work in nearby regions, in many cities in Russia, and in leading foreign clinics.

PEDIATRIC FACULTY

In 1970, by the order of the Ministry of Health of the RSFSR No. 74 of 04/01/1970, the pediatric faculty was opened.

The specialized departments where the disciplines of the specialty are studied are: the Department of Propaedeutics of Childhood Diseases and Pediatrics, where they study a healthy child, the basics of a healthy lifestyle, begin to get acquainted with the pathology of childhood; the Department of Faculty Pediatrics, Department of Hospital Pediatrics, Clinical Immunology and Allergology.

The clinical bases of the faculty are the Chelyabinsk City Clinical Hospital No. 1, the Chelyabinsk Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, the maternity hospital of the South Ural State Medical University, City Clinical Hospital No. 10, Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 8, etc.

Graduates of the Faculty of Pediatrics after graduation receive a qualification – a pediatrician of general practice and after passing the primary accreditation procedure can work as a local pediatrician.

DENTISTRY FACULTY

In 1998, a branch of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Ural State Medical Academy was opened at the university.

The faculty trains specialists in the specialty 31.05.03 “Dentistry”, the form of student education is full-time, and training is carried out in accordance with the standard term for mastering the specialty for 5 years. Graduates are awarded the qualification “Dentist”.

The main mission of the teaching staff of the Faculty of Dentistry is the undergraduate training of dentists with the level of professional competence established by the standard.

DISEASE PREVENTION FACULTY

The Faculty of Preventive Medicine was opened at the Chelyabinsk State Medical Academy in 2000. The faculty trains doctors – specialists of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance, the main task of which is to ensure the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population, i.e. carrying out preventive work.

Students of the Faculty of Preventive Medicine for 6 years of study receive training as general practitioners, studying clinical disciplines, and specializing as hygienists (sanitary doctors) and epidemiologists, studying the following special disciplines: general hygiene (hygiene propaedeutics), food hygiene, communal hygiene, occupational health, hygiene of children and adolescents, radiation hygiene, military hygiene, epidemiology.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

The faculty ensures the organization of the State certification of graduates and coordinates the educational and methodological work of the departments and divisions included in its structure. There are 3 graduating departments on the faculty – the Department of Psychology; the Department of Clinical Psychology and Social Work; Department of Social Sciences and Humanities.

A characteristic feature of graduating departments is participation in the development of curricula following current educational standards, ensuring the implementation of blocks of disciplines and communication with basic medical institutions, and organizing the work of the State Attestation Commission.

The clinical and educational bases of the faculty are the leading medical institutions of the city of Chelyabinsk, as well as institutions subordinate to the Ministry of Social Relations of the Chelyabinsk Region.

PHARMACEUTICAL FACULTY

The training of pharmacists has become a logical step in the implementation of pharmaceutical education programs in this educational institution. Much has been done for the formation and development of the faculty. Thanks to the efforts of the employees and with the support of the management, university has well-renovated and well-equipped classrooms for conducting classes in general and inorganic, physical and colloidal, analytical, organic, pharmaceutical, toxicological chemistry, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical technology, pharmacy management and economics, medical and pharmaceutical commodity science, pharmacology and clinical pharmacology, etc. In the educational process, the latest models of spectrophotometers, a high-performance liquid chromatograph, and a tablet press are used. The library has a complete set of new educational literature, all periodicals, and scientific publications in the specialty. 

CLINICAL BASE

The clinic is a modern medical institution with a professional team of doctors. They employ only highly qualified specialists, candidates, and doctors of medical sciences. The Clinic has all the conditions for the timely diagnosis of diseases and their treatment using high-tech, innovative methods. They use the latest achievements of modern science and personalized medicine. It is based on the Clinic where a training simulation center is located, which opened in 2011. This is a kind of training ground for practicing doctors: obstetricians-gynecologists, anesthesiologists-resuscitators, and neonatologists. The educational process uses high-tech robotic mannequins (pregnant women and women in labor, newborns) and modern resuscitation equipment, which improves the quality of obstetrics and perinatal care. This approach to training physicians is in line with the latest professional educational technologies used in Western Europe and North America. Currently, the South Ural State Medical University Clinic is a modern medical and preventive institution, which is the leading clinical base of the university, where both students and doctors train and improve their professionalism.

STUDENT SCIENTIFIC SOCIETY

SSS (student scientific society) was founded in the early years of the existence of the Chelyabinsk Medical Institute.

SSS conducts active work, which includes: coordinating the activities of student scientific circles of departments and laboratories of the South Ural State Medical University, assisting in the publication and implementation of the results of students’ scientific work, assisting South Ural State Medical University students in participating in scientific conferences, symposiums, seminars, scientific congresses, providing all available information about ongoing conferences and grants. In addition, the tasks of the SSS include: the organization of the annual final scientific student conference, as well as the release of the conference program and collection. The collection includes scientific papers by students of South Ural State Medical University and other medical universities, including foreign ones.

HOSTEL

South Ural State Medical University has five dormitories with a total of 2,246 beds.

For the duration of the preparatory courses and entrance tests, nonresident applicants are provided with a hostel.

Hostels are occupied with all the necessary equipment, all rooms are designed for 2-3 people, kitchen, and laundry are located on each floor.
