Samara State Medical University is a modern university with a century-old history. We train personnel for practical healthcare, develop science and develop advanced technologies.

SamSMU includes 8 institutes, more than 15 specialized diagnostic and therapeutic centers, 14 departments, and 90 chairs.

In 1991 Samara State Medical University began the training of general practitioners, pharmacists, trainees, and post-graduate research students from Eastern countries, Asia, Africa, and Latin America based on the International Students Department. Training is based on a contract system.

INSTITUTE OF CLINICAL MEDICINE

Institute of Clinical Medicine contributes to teaching, research, and knowledge dissemination within the clinical field.

The aim and mission of the Institute of Clinical Medicine are to conduct medical research and education at the highest international level. The department focuses on clinically oriented research, combining this with laboratory and registry-based basic research and image analysis.

The Clinical Medicine Institute seeks to increase the scope and quality of research and teaching through extensive national and international collaboration and recruitment.

INSTITUTE OF DENTISTRY

Dental training lasts five years and upon completion candidates are awarded a Doctor of Dentistry (DMD) degree, giving them the right to practice independently. Then you can be trained as a specialist.

For the first two years, the curriculum is similar to that of a medical student, but orthodontics is already included in the program. From the third year onwards, dentistry will play an increasingly important role, and the number of specialized treatments will increase significantly.

INSTITUTE OF PHARMACY

The most important undertaking of the Institute is to offer brilliant schooling to destiny professionals and to educate them in a good way to arrange each extremely good paintings of pharmacy institutions and their unmarried units, to discover and put in force their sports in diverse regions so one can offer an excessive stage of pharmaceutical help to the population.

Students gain knowledge at practical classes and seminars during their industrial practice in pharmacies and pharmaceutical enterprises in the number of regions of Russia.

INTERNATIONAL ACCREDITATION

SamSMU has been accredited according to the standards of the World Organization of Medical Education (WFME) for 5 years.

Graduates of WFME-accredited medical universities can apply for ECFMG (The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) certification, which is required for those who wish to pursue further studies or obtain a medical license in the USA and Canada, while qualifications of NAAR/IAAR accredited medical university graduates are equivalent to European qualifications and are recognized throughout Europe. Graduates of accredited universities can apply for USMLE, the three-step examination for medical licensure in the US and, if they are successful, may obtain an unlimited medical license in the United States. Starting in 2024 all medical universities must be WFME accredited to guarantee qualification recognition to graduates and allow them to apply for ECFMG certification.

RESEARCH ACTIVITY

More than 40 authoritative Russian and international organizations are involved in scientific and technical cooperation with SamSMU. Joint projects are going on with the leading institutions of Germany and France.

SamSMU is a coordinator of two clusters: the research and education cluster «Nizhnevolzhskiy», which includes 7 medical universities, and the innovative territorial cluster of medical and pharmaceutical technologies, involving 70 organizations. The University is the basic institution of the regional Povolzhskiy Neuro-net Center.

CLINICAL BASE

The clinics of SamSMU use the leading technologies of medical care and provide high-quality service to their patients.  The Clinics have medical facilities of the expert level, including modern equipment for diagnostics, treatment, intensive care, anesthesia, and rehabilitation.

The Clinics of SamSMU can successfully perform a wide range of operations of various complexity, among them emergency surgery and unique operations in such profiles as cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, abdominal surgery, traumatology and orthopedics, maxillofacial surgery, and others.

The Clinics specialize also in minimally invasive surgery — microsurgical, laparoscopic, and endovascular procedures; in cerebral revascularization, coronary artery bypass grafting, and aortic aneurysm surgery.

The Clinics have more than 1000 In-patient beds in resuscitation wards, daycare, and full-time wards, including one-place and extra comfort patient rooms.

The Clinics of SamSMU are the largest rehabilitation center in the region, which uses classic methods of patient rehabilitation along with modern techniques: physiotherapy, gravity therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and others.

The medical aid, provided in the Clinics, is in strict alignment with the principles of quality control and the safety of patients.

LIBRARY

The university library is one of the largest libraries in the city of Samara and the Samara region with a unique fund of specialized medical books and periodicals, an important information resource in the implementation of state educational programs. The library’s readers are more than 8 thousand students, teachers, graduate students, residents, university staff, and practicing doctors. Every year more than 290 thousand times they visit subscriptions and reading rooms, and they are given more than 580 thousand copies of documents. In the electronic reading rooms of the library, 18 workstations are organized for users with access to the Internet, electronic catalogs of the library, electronic library systems, and scientometric resources.

ACCOMMODATION

Nowadays, the University has a well-organized, modern infrastructure for students’ accommodation and education. There are 4 dormitories for students. The «Rules and regulations for students’ dormitory of SamSMU» is the document that describes the procedure of accommodation in the dormitory.

The dormitory lives a rich cultural life! Students from different countries actively participate in organized cultural events, which are held with great enthusiasm.

SPORTS AND CREATIVITY

SamSMU has its own sports and gym, and two outdoor sports grounds. The Department of Physical Education has 10 sports sections. Sports competitions are held annually, SamSMU national teams take part in regional, city, and All-Russian competitions.
