Saint-Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University was founded in 1925 as the Academic and Research Institute of Maternal health and babyhood protection in the hospital basement on the 7th of January 1925.

For many decades, the University is an international center of higher medical education. Over the past half-century, it graduated several thousand foreign students from 70 countries on 4 continents.

GENERAL MEDICINE FACULTY 

General Medicine faculty is committed to improving the health and well-being of Russian communities by providing quality, effective medical care that is characterized by excellence, innovation, integrity, collaboration, and compassion.   Recognizing this commitment, faculty has a unique academic mission to educate the next generation of physicians through education, patient-centered research, and a scientific approach to clinical practice.   General Medicine faculty and its students are dedicated to improving the health of individual patients and the larger community.

FACULTY OF DENTISTRY

The Faculty of Dentistry offers a five-year curriculum. Students master the basic subjects of medical and biological profiles and the various clinical disciplines required for dentistry. Upon successful completion of the course, graduates receive a doctor-dentist diploma. The curriculum provides further postgraduate training. The degree awarded is BDS. The department was well equipped with additional facilities with the necessary amount of visual aids and special equipment for students to cope with the educational courses. All chairpersons and students actively contribute to the production of textbooks. Specially organized metal-ceramic laboratories and laboratories for high-frequency melting and casting of dentures.

SCIENCE WORK

At the SPbSPMU Faculty of Pediatrics, Endocrinology and Abilitology conducts research on genetic markers of multifactoral diseases like bronchial asthma, diabetes mellitus, adrenogenital syndrome, violation of sexual development in children, hypothyroidism, cystic fibrosis, blood diseases.

At the Faculty of Pediatrics of the name of I.M. Vorontsov scientists explore efficiency predictors of target therapy taking into account the pheno- and endotypes of disease.

At the Faculty of Hospital, Pediatric members explore the research, which accorded on the identification of genetic determinants of autoimmune and ethnically associated diseases of children.

Many scientific studies, conducted by the University’s specialists, are supported by grants, both Russian and International, and their number is constantly growing. International scientific projects are developing too.

In June 2016 the joint Russian-greek conference was held in SPbSPMU. We have international agreements with universities from Boston and Houston (USA). We have cooperate with children’s hospitals in the USA, Canada, Italy, and others.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Saint-Petersburg state pediatric medical university related agreements of cooperation and partnership with foreign medical organizations: The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (Houston, USA), Democritus University of Thrace (Alexandroupolis, Greece), Belarus State medical university (Minsk, Belarus), Mhitara Geraci’s Erevan State medical university (Erevan, Armenia). It allows our students to take a part in international exchange programs. This work allows improving our educational level.

CLINICAL BASE

Students have a practice in our hospital (one of the biggest in Russia) from their first days in university. They learn from practitioners, who work in our clinic.

Our hospital is a federal medical organization with one of the biggest scientific bases and ancient traditions of Leningrad’s pediatric school. We have modern diagnostic technologies: multislice computer tomography, MRI, US scanners, installation for radiologists, modern radioisotope laboratory and etc. Clinical and biochemical, bacteriological, and virological laboratories allow us to perform the entire spectrum of research at the advanced level. Our specialists work at the frontiers of modern science and implement new technologies into practice.
