Chkalov Medical Institute was established in 1944 in Orenburg. The Official establishers of the Institute are considered to be Lazarenko F.M., Histologist, Professor; Olifson L.E., Chemist, Associate Professor; Silantyev A.K, Associate Professor, Surgeon. Orenburg is the administrative center of Orenburg Region. The city is located at the confluence of Samara and Ural River.

In 1946, first students have graduated from the Institute. Chkalov Medical Institute was renamed to Orenburg State Medical Institute in 1957.

In 1961, first students’ hostel was opened. In 1964, the second one was opened.

In 1970, the Department of Pediatrics and a scientific-research laboratory for exploration of mechanisms of natural immune system were opened.

In 1985, students’ hostel № 3 and canteen for students were built.

In 1990’s, the Institute was rapidly developing, new Departments were opened, such as: the Department of Higher Nursing Care, the Department of Preventive Care. What is more, in 2002, were opened three new Departments: Dental Department, Pharmaceutical Department and the Department of Clinical Psychology.

In 1994, by decision of the State Committee of the Russian Federation on Higher School, the Institute was reorganized into Orenburg State Medical University.

Academic staff of Orenburg State Medical University consists of bright specialists. There are 555 lecturers. Among the teaching staff, there are 93Doctors of Medicine and 300 Professors and Associate Professors. There are 8 departments at Orenburg State Medical University at which students can get education in different directions.

Orenburg State Medical University provides professional training with a strong focus on scientific research and up-to-date technology usage of information. Students of the University take active part in research work since the first course.  Usually, they work in students’ research circles. Students are having practice and first medical experience at 7 Medical hospitals of the city.

There are 4500 students who get education in Orenburg State Medical University. Students can get both undergraduate and postgraduate education at the University.More than 3000 students and 1000 listeners at the Department of post-graduate education study at the University, about 500 professionals in medical field graduate from the University every year.  Orenburg State Medical University satisfies all modern standards and requirements of education. Till the present day, the University has trained over 24000 specialists. Graduates from Orenburg State Medical University, work at state and private medical and preventive institutions. National and foreign clinics are interested in well-qualified graduates from the University.

Accommodation:

There are three students’ hostels at the University. Students are offered comfortable rooms. Kitchens and bathrooms are to be used on the sharing basis. There is all the necessary furniture for comfortable living in the students’ rooms. All the rooms are supplied with the Internet access, cable TV and telephone. Students’ hostel is a safe and secure place, it is under guardianship of the police during 24 hours. Hostels for students are very closely located to the University, it takes some few minutes to get there by foot.
