History
In 1935, following the decision of People’s Commissars of the USSR, the teaching staff of the Novosibirsk Institute Medical and Tomsk Medical Institute in Novosibirsk were united in one team of teachers, and they started its first classes in the third year of the newly organized medical institute. The first director was Professor I.H. Lifshitz.
During the Great Patriotic War, teachers and students have made a contribution to the enemy’s defeat. In difficult conditions universitycontinued training , conducted advisory work for professors in medical institutions of Novosibirsk region. In subsequent years, technical base and laboratory, new faculties, departments and courses are developing. Since 1997, the institute headed by Professor A.V. Efremov. The results of re-certification of the institute gave the foundation in 1998 to change its status, and, since 1999, the institution became known as “the Novosibirsk State Medical Academy”.
February 21, 2008 at the election of the rector of State Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education “Novosibirsk State Medical University, Federal Agency of Health and Social Development” was elected rector professor Igor O. Marinkin.
In September 2010, Novosibirsk State Medical University celebrated its 75th anniversary. University went a long way, has a glorious history, good traditions and highly professional staff.
NSMU now
Currently, Novosibirsk State Medical University has over 1700 employees and 8 faculties. about 5000 students, 76 faculties, 600 medical residents and interns. More than 200 graduate students enrolled in the Novosibirsk State Medical University. Classes are held at 70 clinical bases located in major medical institutions of Novosibirsk
