The educational policy of NArFU is built in accordance with the Federal Target Program for the Development of Education in Russia, the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation and Ensuring National Security for the Period up to 2020, strategies and programs for the development of corporations and enterprises in the region.
The University creates the necessary conditions for providing personnel and technological resources for industrial, social and humanitarian projects in the Russian Arctic.
A scientific and innovative infrastructure has been created and is being developed, including research institutes, centers for collective use, scientific and educational centers, innovation and technology centers and laboratories equipped with modern equipment and staffed with highly qualified scientific personnel. The total volume of scientific research conducted by the university since 2010 has increased by more than 5 times.

SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING
NArFU School of Engineering’s mission is to educate the next generation of engineering leaders, to create new knowledge and to develop the Russian North and Arctic. School of Engineering is a powerhouse for research and engineering education in Russia and beyond. The school works with local and national industries to address pressing technological challenges and to strengthen our manufacturing base. The school values entrepreneurship and innovation, and our students and faculty actively develop startups and new technologies in support of economic development.
SCHOOL OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES AND AUTOMATED SYSTEMS
Higher School of Information Technologies and Automated Systems was established on May 01, 2016, by Rector’s order №418, April 2, 2016.
The main aim of the Higher School of Information Technologies and Automated Systems is to provide continuing high-quality education, effective research work, and implementation of international-level innovative developments in the field of mathematics, modern digital technologies, and automated systems to meet individual and labor market needs.
The strategic objectives are to organize the formation of a competence center in the sphere of modern digital technologies and automated systems, by providing quality education and implementing demand projects on the market.
HIGHER SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS, MANAGEMENT AND LAW
Higher School of Economics, Management and Law is a center for training economic, managerial, and legal personnel
Tasks:
- expansion of research and project components in the educational process;
- internationalization of educational programs, development of international mobility of students, graduate students, and faculty;
- creation of a system for monitoring socio-economic processes in the region based on an expert-analytical center. A key resource is attracting and concentrating young and energetic researchers.

INTERNATIONAL PROFILE
The development of international cooperation is one of the priorities of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University
Modern education and research require the daily cooperation of universities and research centers not only within one country but all over the world. The scientific and educational environment of the XXI century has an international and global scale. New scientific achievements and discoveries require cross-border discussions and a systematic exchange of experience.
Today NArFU develops partnerships with many universities around the world. The Arctic Focus of NArFU determines our close ties with universities in Norway, Finland, Sweden, Canada, and the USA. Today students from Latin America, Africa, Asia, CIS, and Baltic countries go into higher education at the Northern (Arctic) Federal University.
STUDENTS’ RESEARCH WORK
SRW is an important constituent of the University’s R&D activity and an integral element of high-quality specialist training. The University has a Student Research Society as well as the Young Researchers and Experts Council.
NArFU may support its talented students and young researchers by offering
- financial support to R&D projects by students and young researchers on a competitive basis;
- individual scholarships to winners and finalists of R&D projects competitions, as well as to research advisers of the winners;
- development and improvement of the intellectual contests system (students’ academic competitions, contests, scientific and research-to-practice conferences);
- encouragement of students’ participation in international and all-Russian academic competitions and contests
- guidance of talented students and young researchers (establishment and development of students’ scientific societies, involvement of students in the work of the research laboratories, research and education centers).
SCIENTIFIC LIBRARY
Intellectual Center – Scientific library named after E.I. Ovsyankin is an important part of the University’s info space.
NArFU library was based on the libraries of Pomor State University, Arkhangelsk State Technical University, and on libraries of Arkhangelsk Technical and Forestry College, Technical University in Severodvinsk, and Extramural Institute of Finance and Economics.
The library includes different loan departments along with traditional reading halls and reading halls providing electronic resources, bibliographic departments, and a department of preservation of library funds.
Library funds consist of circa 1.2 million educational and scientific books, periodicals, abstracts of dissertations and dissertations themselves, teaching aids, bibliographic indexes, and foreign publications in print and electronic media.

- Each dormitory provides rest room and laundry. Some of them have a gym;
- All dormitories are located close to public transport, shopping centers, and NARFU campuses;

The student residence is composed of comfortable fully furnished double and triple rooms. The washroom and kitchen are shared among residents of the same floor/unit.
Dorm “Comfort”
The hostel facilities: a standard room (for 1 person) and a large room (for 2 persons), shared kitchen (for 5-10 persons), and bathroom (for 2 persons). The room and kitchen are furnished. Wi-Fi is available. “Comfort” rooms are by default booked for our short-term students and researchers.
