Northwestern State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov formed in October 12, 2011 the union of two of the oldest Russian educational medical institutions – the St. Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education and the St. Petersburg State Medical Academy. II Mechnikov.

The University is built on close cooperation and coordination of educational, clinical and research activities – it allows to prepare qualified specialists.

Today  in the University is about 4300 students (~ 3000 students on the budgetary form of training and ~ 1200 students studying iwith the tuition fee). Besides Russian citizens in the University study more than 300 students from foreign countries.

University trained over 650 medical interns and about 1,100 medical residents. Doctoral Research carried out by 460 graduate students, doctoral candidates and academic degrees. Also, each year about 30 000 doctors improve their professional qualifications.

.Research work at the University is conducted in accordance with the relevant areas of science, considerable attention is given to research in the field of health, sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population. Long-term strategy focused on efficient transfer of the results of fundamental research activities and the construction of a favorable scientific, educational environment, providing continuous training of highly qualified personnel.

Accommodation

The hostel consists of units with 8-9 rooms, where 2-3 persons can live in a room. There is a kitchen, showers and toilets in a unit. As well as they are provided with bedclothes.
