North Eastern Federal University in Yakutsk

The University occupies 40 buildings and 12 residence halls located mostly on the University campus. The accessible and convivial dimension of the campus makes students feel at home; international students are well integrated as it is easy to contact faculty, administration, and other students. There are student canteens almost everywhere throughout the campus that propose different meals at an affordable prices.

There are 1 500,000 books, periodicals, and other items in the University Library. Computer stations make up the University’s library resources available to users throughout the campus. Moreover, it has access to a rich database of electronic resources including both Russian and foreign periodicals (EBSCO, Science, JSTOR, Oxford University Press, etc.)

The University has a Geology Field Station, a Museum of Archeology and Ethnography, a Botanical garden, and an Orangery open to staff and students’ research and study.

The University has a Stadium, a Swimming Pool, and a Social Centre.

Our students and staff have free access to the Ethernet and Wi-Fi in all University buildings and Residence Hall

NEFU was officially established in April 2010th based on M. K. Ammosov Yakutsk State University, a university with 75 years of history.

INSTITUTE OF MEDICINE

The Institute of Medicine at M.K. Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University (founded in 1957) may be called one of the oldest higher medicine institutes in the North-East of Russia. The Institute of Medicine is known both in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and outside of it, as a real source of practical and scientific, and pedagogic personnel training. We have students not only from the Republic but from Magadan, Irkutsk, the Republic of Buryatia, and other regions of Russia.

The medical profession is a precious and honorable job, aimed at the preservation of health – the main heritage not only of every person but every society.

INSTITUTE OF FINANCES AND ECONOMICS

The Institute of Economics of Yakutsk State University was established based on the Faculty of Economics by Decree of the President of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) № 1052 of May 22, 1995, to realize the federal state educational standards of the higher professional economic education and to improve Human Resourcing of the republic economic reform. In 1996 it was reorganized into the Institute of Finances and Economics.

The professionals’ time has come in the field of economics – people who have a basic higher economic, and financial education. The Institute of Finances and Economics of North-Eastern Federal University is a leading higher educational institution, preparing highly qualified economic personnel for the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY

Institute of Engineering & Technology (former Technology Faculty) was founded at the time of the foundation of Yakutsk State University in 1956.

The Institute’s main objective is to create an enabling environment to provide quality training for engineers who are competitive in the Russian and international labor markets with a view to their further integration into the international engineering community.

A key advantage of IET is research and development programs on construction and livelihood in the North:

• new and efficient construction materials and prefabricated structures;
• the temperature resistance and energy efficiency of the structures in the northern environment.
• maintainability and safety of constructions and life-support systems of buildings and structures in Yakutia
• architecture and urban planning
• northern wood timber processing and wood construction technologies
• development and land management of northern and arctic territories

FACULTY OF LAW

NEFU Department of Law was established in 1982. Then, in 2000-2001 was transformed into the Faculty of Law.

The main task of the faculty is to prepare specialists on the basis not only of the world’s and Russian legal heritage, but also taking into account for the specifics of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), as the subject of the federation, and its place in the geography of the world, features of its own statutory regulation.

Today NEFU Faculty of Law is one of the largest lawyers’ training centers in the Far East. The faculty trains lawyers for the State government bodies and local government, the authority of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation in the Sakha Republic- Federal Registration Service of the Russian Federation, Prosecutor’s Office of the Sakha Republic, Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sakha Republic, Federal Security Service of the Sakha Republic, and legal services of different organizational and legal companies.

NEFU RESEARCH LIBRARY

University Library was founded in 1934 due to the opening of the Yakut Teacher Training Institute. In 1956, the library became the university library, and it was associated with the transformation of the Teacher Training Institute into Yakutsk State University (YSU).

Since 2010, with the creation of the federal university based on YSU, it’s called the Research Library of M.K. Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University.

The mission of the Research Library of North-Eastern Federal University is to assist in the implementation of the educational process and scientific research, the training of highly qualified specialists and humanization of education, to provide highly professional information services to library users, and access to global information resources, integrate the national information industry in the world information space.

NEFU Research Library is located at 58, Belinsky str., Yakutsk. Libraries of the institutions are located in academic buildings.

RESEARCH

Department of Science and Innovation – a subdivision of planning and control of the university’s activities in the field of organizing scientific research, innovation, and training highly qualified scientific and pedagogical personnel.

The activities of DNI are aimed at ensuring the implementation of the main tasks of the scientific research activities of NEFU:

• strategic planning for the development of scientific and innovative activities of the university;
• implementation of organizational and methodological support for the research activities of the university departments;
• assistance in attracting additional sources of funding for research activities, assistance in drawing up applications for grants;
• preparation of proposals and draft agreements on scientific cooperation with external organizations;
• maintaining information support and monitoring of the publication activity of the university;
• formation of an integral system of training and professional growth of scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel, providing conditions for the promotion of scientific research and development of the university in the world scientific community;
• improvement, coordination, and support of scientific research work of students and young scientists of NEFU;
• a qualitative increase in the scientometric indicators of the university through the systematic and automated collection, systematization, storage, and analysis of performance in science and innovation;
• support and development of youth science, the use of the results of scientific activities, and the scientific and technical base of NEFU;
• coverage of the results of scientific research of teachers, employees, doctoral students, postgraduates, undergraduates, and applicants for doctoral and candidate degrees of NEFU, Russian and foreign scientists in the field of biological sciences, physical and mathematical sciences, and philological sciences.

STUDENTS SOCIAL LIFE

Students who want to improve their physical shape can visit a gym in the “Triumph” sports center, which is on campus. Also in our university, you will find many different sports sections, such as Volleyball, Basketball, Football, Sport Orienteering, Gymnastics, Aerobics, Shaping, Teskao, Table Tennis, self-defense techniques, Mas-wrestling, Khapsagai (Yakut national wrestling), Judo, Sambo, gymnastics, Parkour, Workout, Circus acrobatics, Aerobics, Taekwondo, Wushu Sanda, weight lifting, Wellness athletic gymnastics, boxing, kickboxing, Skiing, and Swimming. All of these sports are absolutely free for students of NEFU.

HOSTEL

Room scheme

As a rule, it is a block consisting of two double rooms, a corridor, a toilet, a shower, and a kitchen.

Furniture

Each room has two beds, a desk, a small closet, a table, and two chairs. Each kitchen has a sink, refrigerator, electric stove, and two dressers. Each room has a wardrobe. There is a dedicated workroom for students.

Living conditions

Blankets, pillows, pillowcases, sheets, and towels are provided for each person. Linen is changed for her cleaning every 10 days but can be changed more frequently if desired. The dorms have central heating.
