Lipetsk State Technical University
History
Founded in 1956 as an evening faculty of the Tula Mechanical Institute by order of the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR dated November 1, 1956 No. 869. Then it was the first and only technical university in the Lipetsk region. At first, there were two specialties at the faculty: “Engineering technology, machine tools and tools” and “Machines and foundry technology”.
Simultaneously with the founding of the faculty, the Departments of higher mathematics, physics and chemistry were organized.
In 1959, the evening faculty was transformed into the Lipetsk evening faculty of MISiS, and in 1966, into the Lipetsk branch of MISiS (on the basis of the order of the Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the USSR dated December 16, 1966 No. 471). At this time, new departments of ferrous metallurgy and engineering technology were created.
In 1973, on the basis of the Lipetsk branch of MISiS, by Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR of January 27, 1972 No. 86 and order of the Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the USSR of May 15, 1972 No. 399, the Lipetsk Polytechnic Institute was organized with four faculties, including evening. Work is underway to create an educational and laboratory base, methodological and software for the educational process.
In the late 1980s in connection with the humanization of technical education, departments of culture and psychology were created.
In 1991, the eighth faculty was organized – business and management (currently – the faculty of economics). At the same time, the construction of a new educational and laboratory building was completed.
In 1994, the institute received the status of a state technical university by order of the State Committee of the Russian Federation for Higher Education dated May 26, 1994 No. 524.
In 2007, LGTU became a diploma winner of the competition “100 Best Goods of Russia” in the nomination “Educational Activities”.
About University
The university today is one of the recognized leaders in higher education in the Central Black Earth region. Achievements of the university in 2014-2015 in educational and scientific activities were awarded the gold medal “One Hundred Best Universities of the Country”; in the spring of 2015, Lipetsk State Technical University was included in the National Register of Leading Educational Institutions of Russia. LSTU was also among the winners of the federal project competition “Personnel for the Regions”. In 2016, such LSTU programs as “Sociology”, “Management”, “Heat power engineering and heat engineering”, “Metallurgy”, “Construction” were among the best educational programs of innovative Russia.
For more than half a century of history of LSTU, the concept of the development of the university has remained unchanged, focusing its efforts on ensuring the quality of professional training of highly qualified personnel and raising the prestige of engineering education and science.
The innovative and industrial orientation of the region makes it necessary to implement LSTU as a multidisciplinary university that trains specialists to ensure economic growth and modernization, primarily of the metallurgical, machine-building, construction clusters, as well as energy and economics.
The scientific and educational structure of the university includes 3 institutes: a metallurgical institute, an institute of mechanical engineering, a research institute, as well as 8 faculties: physical and technological, transport engineers, civil engineering, automation and informatics, economics, humanitarian and social sciences and law, correspondence and faculty of additional education.
LSTU provides a wide range of high-quality educational services: pre-university training at the Evrika Physics and Mathematics School, higher education in 43 undergraduate areas, 6 specialties, 30 master’s programs, 36 postgraduate specialties, 55 correspondence programs, 15 additional professional education programs and additional vocational training, 16 programs of secondary vocational education.
At present, the modern material and technical base of the university is a vast complex of educational and industrial buildings and structures with a developed network of engineering communications and external landscaping. In total, the complex includes: 14 educational and laboratory buildings and separate buildings, two educational and sports complexes with swimming pools, outdoor sports facilities, two hostels, a catering plant and a sports and recreation camp.
Since its opening, Lipetsk State Technical University has been making a significant contribution to the development of industry and science in the Central Black Earth region and Russia. More than 40,000 university graduates work today in Russian industry, state and municipal governments, and business communities. Among the graduates of the Leningrad State Technical University are the laureates of the State Prize in the field of science and technology, deputies of the State Duma and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, heads of the Administration of the Lipetsk region and the city of Lipetsk, general directors and members of the boards of directors of the largest enterprises in the region and Russia.
The first and only technical university in the region is rapidly moving forward, introducing innovative educational technologies, and developing international strategic partnerships. Currently, LSTU cooperates with 39 foreign universities, including universities in Italy, Germany, Portugal, Serbia, Poland, Slovakia, China, Denmark, and the CIS countries. Within the framework of the Tempus-Tassis project, joint work has been carried out with partners from the European Union for several years.
Hostel
LGTU has a well-appointed hostel. All non-resident students studying on a budgetary basis of full-time education are provided with places in the hostel of the Leningrad State Technical University.
The hostel is equipped with 3 elevators, a garbage chute, cold and hot water supply, sewerage, central heating; has a sectional structure of an improved layout.
Each section consists of 2 living rooms with an area of 18 m2, each of which can accommodate up to 3 people, is equipped with a separate bathroom, washroom, hallway-kitchen (stationary electric stoves are installed), some sections are equipped with a shower. There is also a shared shower on the ground floor. Of the furniture in the room there are beds, bedside tables, wardrobe (dressing room), desks, chairs, bookshelves. The territory of the hostel is landscaped, landscaped, has electric lighting.
To protect the health of students living in the hostel, a medical center has been opened. The first-aid post has a medical assistant’s room, a general practitioner’s office, a treatment room, and an isolation room. In the first-aid post, each student can take advantage of free medical care.
The university hostel buildings are interconnected by a covered passage through which a student can safely go to classes without going outside. It also provides access to the student canteen and canteen, providing quick access to food outlets.
Much attention is paid to educational work with students during extracurricular time. For this purpose, leisure activities of a cultural and sports nature are held in the hostel. Healthy leisure activities are facilitated by the presence of special premises: an assembly hall (2nd and 3rd floors), a room for students’ meetings (4th floor).
