Kostroma State Technological University

History

On November 1, 1931, the Gosplan of the RSFSR approved a proposal to open a textile institute in Kostroma. On July 26, 1932, the People’s Commissariat of Light Industry appointed V. G. Bobrov director of the Kostroma Textile Institute. For the future institute, the building of the former diocesan school was allocated, which was then occupied by land management, forestry, reclamation and linen technical schools (Dzerzhinsky St., 15).

• Founded in 1932 as the Kostroma Textile Institute;
• On September 1, 1935, the Faculty of Technology was formed;
• in 1937, the first graduation of specialists in spinning and weaving took place;
• in 1939, the institute received the right to postgraduate studies;
• in 1942, the first graduation of specialists in the primary processing of bast fibers took place;
• in 1956, the first graduation of specialists in machines and apparatuses of the textile and light industry took place;
• in 1962 the Textile Institute was transformed into a technological one;
• in 1964, the first graduation of specialists in woodworking technology took place;
• in 1965, the first graduation of specialists in engineering technology, metal-cutting machine tools and tools, automation and complex mechanization of chemical and technological processes took place. Obtained the right to defend doctoral dissertations;
• in 1969, the first graduation of specialists in forest engineering took place;
• in 1971, the first graduation of specialists in economics and organization of consumer goods industry took place. Obtained the right to defend doctoral dissertations;
• in 1982, the Institute was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, a museum of the history of the Institute was opened;
• in 1987, the first graduation of specialists in accounting and business analysis took place;
• in 1994 doctoral studies were opened;
• in 1995 the Technological Institute was transformed into the State Technological University;
• in 1999, the first graduation of specialists in technology and knitwear, CAD specialists, specialists in artistic processing of materials took place.

The flagship university of the Kostroma region was established in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation No. 196 dated March 10, 2016 by reorganizing two universities in the form of joining: the Kostroma State University named after N. A. Nekrasov to the Kostroma State Technological University. The academic councils and university administrations decided to follow the principle of equal association during the accession.

KSU is one of the 11 flagship universities in Russia of the “first wave”. Among the many applicants, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation chose him. This indicates a worthy base of Kostroma State University and a high potential for further development and improvement.

In December 2017, KSU became the winner of the federal priority project “Universities as centers of the space for creating innovations” and received the status of a university center for innovative, technological and social development of the region.

About University

Kostroma State Technological University is the only university in Russia that trains personnel for the linen industry, and the only one in the Kostroma region that has been training personnel for the textile, light industry, mechanical engineering for 80 years, and for more than 40 years for the forest complex. The university graduates specialists in the field of labor protection, emergency protection, for the jewelry industry, tourism, and in cooperation with engineering and technical specialties – in the areas of “Economics” (by industry) and “Jurisprudence”.

The total area of the university is 162 thousand square meters. m. The university campus includes 18 educational and 7 residential buildings. KSU has 8 institutes, which teach in 47 areas of training. Educational programs are adjusted to meet the needs of modern life. During training, each student has the opportunity to receive two specialties at once.

44% of the areas of training are social and humanitarian specialties, 33% – mathematical, natural sciences, engineering and technical, 23% – pedagogical. 8,000 students study at KSU, of which 6,742 are undergraduate students, 118 are specialized students, and 1,140 are master students.

The teaching staff of the university is 524 people, of which 73 are doctors of science, 313 are candidates of science. The teaching staff for 80% consists of teachers under the age of 47 years.

Kostroma State University actively cooperates with a number of European universities. Our students regularly train at these universities on the most favorable terms. The student and teacher exchange program is successfully operating (studying at a European university from a month to six months).

An interesting creative and sports life of students, the opportunity to engage in scientific research, take part in competitions and olympiads of the highest level, start their career already in the third or fourth year of the university – all this attracts young people to the Kostroma State not only from the Kostroma region, but also from many regions of Russia. In 2017, children from 38 regions of our country entered KSU. In addition, we have foreign students from 20 countries.

KSTU today is a major center of scientific, educational, cultural, sports and educational work in the region. Seven thousand students and graduate students, over a thousand teachers and staff, eight educational buildings, five hostels, a dispensary, a kindergarten, a sports camp.

Hostel

The hostel is provided for out-of-town and foreign students. The rooms can accommodate 2-4 people.

It is corridor-type hostel, each floor has a kitchen and a toilet room. The shower room and laundry room are located on the first floor. The hostel is equipped with furniture, equipment, bedding. All hostel premises are kept in proper condition in accordance with established sanitary rules and regulations.

On the 4th and 5th floors there are rest rooms, which are equipped with upholstered furniture, TV, board games, there is a study room for self-study with computer equipment; an office of a teacher-psychologist, an educator’s office.

Comfortable conditions have been created for living in the dormitory, the dormitory is equipped with an automatic fire alarm and an emergency warning system. The building has a video surveillance system and access control to the hostel.
