The Department of Doctoral or Medical Sciences of Kazan University was established in 1814 by the royal command of Emperor Alexander I.  Since November 1930 Medical Faculty of Kazan Imperial University has become Kazan State Medical Institute, an independent institution with Medical and Sanitation Departments and Kazan State Medical University obtained the status of independent higher medical educational establishment. The University prepares excellent experts in various fields of medicine. Kazan State Medical University holds 16th place among medical schools of the Russian Federation. According to the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities-European Standard ARES-2014, published by European Scientific-Industrial Chamber, Kazan State Medical University has obtained the third place among Medical Universities in the Russian Federation.

The University is located in the central part of Kazan. Kazan is situated on the bank of the Volga River in the central part of the Russian Federation. This city – is a big industrial center with the population over 1, 1 million people. There is a railway, motor-way and airport connection, as well as the largest river port on the Volga River in the city. Life in the city is cheaper than at such large cities like Moscow or St. Petersburg.

Significant dates in the history of Kazan State Medical University:

• In 1932, Pediatric Faculty was created.
• In 1956, the Faculty of Dentistry was established.
• In 1975, the Faculty of Pharmacy was founded.
• In 1994, the Faculty of Nursing was created.
• In 1994, this higher educational establishment acquired the status of a Medical University.
• In 2013, first students were enrolled at Nursing Faculty.

In 2014, two more Faculties were created: the Faculty for Foreign Students and Biomedical Faculty. International students from all the corners of the world come to get education at Kazan State Medical University, as the University offers its services to the students of all nationalities and religions. Kazan State Medical University has trained more than 24000 students, including foreign students from 49 countries.

There are 58 medical academic departments at the University. All the departments of the University are provided with up – to – date lecture-halls, laboratories with DVD, computers, TV sets, multimedia projectors, video cameras, scanners printers and copy machines, that is why educational process in the University is a very productive an effective. Students are offered to improve their knowledge in a huge scientific library with more than a million of scientific books.

The degrees obtained at Kazan State Medical Universities are recognized by World Health Organization (WHO) and can be spotted in the World Directory of Medical Schools. It is also recognized by the Medical council of India. The degree, obtained at Kazan State Medical University is equivalent to the MBBS degree awarded by the Indian medical colleges upon the completion of the similar course. Students with the degree obtained at this University are allowed to appear for the screening test conducted by the MCI.  Academic staff of Kazan State Medical University consists of 10 Corresponding Members of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and Russian Academy of Natural sciences, Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, 2 State Prize Winners of Kazan, 4 Famous Scientist of Russia and 25 Famous Scientists of Kazan, 85 Professors, 126 Doctors of Science and over 300 Candidates of Science.

All the students, who have graduated from Kazan State Medical University, have strong theoretical and practical background as while studying students attend lectures, proceeded by laboratory and practical work at hospitals along with the depth examination of patients, clinical duties etc.

Accommodation:

There are 6 hostels for students. Students are offered different kinds of rooms, which may differ in size. As a rule, two or three students can share the room. All the rooms are comfortable, fully furnished and well-heated. The rooms are provided with the Internet access, TV set and telephone, so that students can easily get in touch with their close people. Facilities for students are organized on the sharing basis, these are: bathrooms and kitchens. There are special areas for students where they can socialize and meet new friends. All the students’ hostels are under protection of the police during 24 hours. Hostels are very closely situated to the University, it takes some minutes to get there on foot.
