    The mission of Kazan Federal University has been set forth as:

    After having obtained the status of a federal university, KFU tasked itself with advancing in the global rankings race. This is also the primary metric for the participants of Project 5-100, a national initiative to boost the competitiveness of the top Russian universities, which Kazan University joined in 2013

    The university has been ranked by QS World University Rankings since 2012, steadily climbing from 601+ to 370th place. It also had 5+ stars in QS Stars Ratings, the only university in Russia to have been so ranked as of November 2020.

    KFU first appeared in the Academic Ranking of World Universities in 2018 and was ranked 801 – 900 in that year and in 2019.

    The university is present in multiple subject areas in QS subject rankings and Times Higher Education subject rankings. The most notable achievement was 90th place in THE subject rankings for Education in 2020.

    INSTITUTE OF FUNDAMENTAL MEDICINE AND BIOLOGY

    Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology (IFMB) is one of the most intensively developing institutes of Kazan Federal University. The Institute consists of more than 60 subdivisions: departments, research laboratories, museums, the Botanical Garden, etc. The Institute’s clinical base is currently at the Kazan University Clinic.

    A unique world-class Medical Simulation Center was created at IFMB. It includes a hospital model, Dental Phantom Class, and Medical Engineering Center. Our scientific areas of expertise are fundamental medicine (molecular biomedicine and biomedical engineering), bionanotechnology and biomaterials, living systems technologies, bioinformatics, space biology, biodiversity, and bioinvasions.

    INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING

    The Institute of Engineering supervises engineering education in all units of KFU.

    A new model of engineering education is introduced at KFU. Training of technical specialists is distributed between various scientific and educational units, and the engineering institute plays the role of the coordination and methodical center.

    The Institute of Engineering realizes academic programs for higher professional education for different majors, and also for postgraduate professional education, carries out preparation, retraining, and professional development of personnel in the field of engineering and technologies, conducts basic and applied scientific research, and solves the following problems:

    • realization of KFU scientific innovations in “hardware”. Creation of models and prototypes of unique devices and devices for basic research;
    • providing engineering education and students’ physicomechanical, chemical, biotechnological, and microbiological specialties competences;
    • meeting the requirements of the small innovative enterprises, science and technology park and business incubator, and educational process in small-scale products.

    INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT, ECONOMICS AND FINANCE

    The Institute of Management, Economics and Finance was founded as the result of a merger between the Institute of Management and Territorial Development and the Institute of Economics and Finance. This merger happened in the year of the 210th anniversary of the Kazan Federal University (2014).

    The Institute is one of the largest at Kazan University. Our alumni are prepared to work in the turbulent conditions of modern economy, they are tech-savvy, competitive and attentive to global developments and innovations. The graduates are in high demand in Tatarstan and Russia.

    THE SCIENCE

    Kazan University is one of the oldest universities in Russia. Imperial Kazan University was founded in 1804 by Emperor Alexander I. Kazan University is the founder of Non-Euclidean geometry, Paramagnetic resonance, Theory of the structure of the respiratory system. In 2010, Kazan University, appointed by the President of the Russian Federation, became a federal university. For more than two hundred years of history, the university has undergone many changes, both in name and in its exclusivity. In the 1930s, during the formation of branch universities, Kazan University lost more than half of its sites and schools. One of the most significant losses of public education was the medical school with the formation of the Kazan Medical Institute.

    In recent years, higher education institutions have again become actively the top leaders involved in education in the field of fundamental biology and medicine, the educational institute, and the established Medical and Sanitary Unit. At the moment, KFU has more than 50,000 students (including 11 thousand of foreign students), about 10,000 employees (including about 3,000 employees), and more than 1,000 research employees. KFU includes 2 lyceums, 1 secondary school, and 1 Kindergarten for children with autism spectrum disorders “WE ARE TOGETHER”, which are platforms for the approbation of pedagogical classes developed in scientific and pedagogical sciences and pedagogical practice for students.

    LIBRARY

    The library, having almost 6 million funds, is one of the largest libraries in Russia. Information about all publications is reflected in traditional catalogs, and more than 1 million entries are contained in the electronic catalog. Based on it, you can make a remote order of publications that are in the book storage of the new library building. The electronic document delivery service allows you to order articles from journals that are not in the library. Through the library’s website, you can also work with a consolidated electronic catalog of 15 leading libraries in Kazan, use the services of a virtual reference service, and view virtual exhibitions and reviews.

    Kazan Federal University regularly acquires access to electronic resources of leading foreign and domestic publishers and aggregators (Elsevier electronic collections, Scopus abstract database, etc.).

    The library forms its own electronic collections.

    The collection of educational and methodological resources contains lecture notes and teaching aids for teachers of KFU.

    STUDENT CLUB

    More than 20,000 people are involved in the activities of the KFU Student Club. All of them are participants in events, spectators, solo performers, leaders, are members of creative teams.

    64 people are cultural organizers (cultural organizers), artistic directors, and directors at institutes/faculties.

    Today, more than 90 creative teams operate and work in KFU in various areas: choreography, vocals, instrumental music, fine arts, literary creativity, theater, original genre, techno-art, and KVN. In 2014, a unique creative team was created – the Combined Orchestra of Kazan University.

    The events held by the Student Club of KFU are always exciting and high-quality performance that reveals the original culture of the university students.

    STUDENT DORMITORIES

    Full-time, regular-course international students are eligible to live in the on-campus dormitories during the standard period for the master’s and doctoral programs.

    Dormitory rooms are priced far below usual housing options and, due to their on-campus location, allow students to devote themselves to their studies and research.
