Kalmyk State University
Kalmyk State University was founded in 1970.
Being a major traditional educational institution in the Republic it is preparing students in 24 specialties, 35 areas of bachelor area training, 13 areas of master’s training, 14 specialties of secondary vocational education, and a number of additional educational programs.
The teaching staff of the university is highly qualified.
The University is constantly working on expanding the range of specialties and specializations. Since priority attention is paid to the training of highly qualified specialists for both University departments and the Republic, the University offers an expanded list of specialties in graduate school. Young scientists who have defended their Candidate’s dissertations successfully work within the Republic’s system of science and education.
Over the past 10 years, the scientific activity as well as the authority of university scientists has increased significantly. It is shown not only by their participation in federal, sectoral, and regional programs but also by the successful implementation of science grants funded by the Ministry of Education of Russia, the Academy of Sciences, and extra-budgetary funds.

THE FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
The engineering faculty offers education outside of the typical classroom setting. By including students in faculty research projects, educators give them practical experience.
the university offers a wide range of Engineering programs with research opportunities and to gain practical, hands-on co-op work experience.
THE FACULTY OF MATHEMATICS, PHYSICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES
The educational process at the faculty is based on the principles of democracy, humanism, and science and contributes not only to the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and abilities but also to the formation of each student as a person, adaptation to external conditions, the manifestation of their own individuality. Apart from the traditional forms of organization of the educational process, the elements of distance education are widespread among the faculty. Traditional lectures, lecture-visualization, lecture presentations, webinars, and practical, laboratory, and seminar classes are the main forms of presenting the necessary material of disciplines that are taught by the faculty.
The modern structure of the faculty includes 7 departments: the Department of Information Technology and Cybernetics, the Department of Mathematics and Physics, the Department of Pedagogy and Pedagogical Skills, the Department of Sociology, the Department of Management of Organization and Administration, the Department of Economics, the Department of Applied Mathematics and Information Technologies.
THE FACULTY OF PRE-UNIVERSITY TRAINING AND EDUCATION OF FOREIGN CITIZENS
Pre-university training and education of foreign citizens at Kalmyk State University is one of the forms of integration of general secondary and higher education, which provides the necessary link between the preparatory education and degree programs at the university.
The Faculty prepares foreigners from China, Mongolia, Korea, Benin, Congo, Mali, Ghana, Iraq, Vietnam, and Germany for the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL-I, TORFL-II) and conducts an internship for philology students from the University of Inner Mongolia (PRC, Hohhot), Mongolian National University (Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar).
In February 2012, the Faculty opened the Department of Russian as a foreign and general humanitarian discipline.

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AT KALMYK STATE UNIVERSITY
Development Program with a view to internationalization of Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education “Kalmyk State University named after B.B.Gorodovikov” aims to expand and strengthen the university’s position in the international educational environment.
Kalmyk State University is a member of the Association of Caspian littoral states, which includes more than 50 universities and research institutes in Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Iran. The cooperation is carried out within the framework of:
educational projects (academic exchanges of students and lecturers, mutual educational programs, and introduction of distance learning technologies);
scientific activity (mutual scientific projects and research work, mutual international scientific conferences, international scientific internships);
the youth policy of the university (sports events based on partner universities, summer language, and cultural and creative camps, youth international projects).
About 1,500 international students, post-graduate students, and trainees from 43 countries visit KalmSU annually to study and for advanced training, and participation in scientific internship programs.
STUDENT SCIENTIFIC SOCIETY
Research work at Kalmyk State University is an integral part of the training of specialists. Through the development of this direction, students increase their interest in the disciplines they study, develop the skills of conducting research of a theoretical and applied nature, and qualitatively increase the level of training of qualified personnel.
To unlock the potential of students at the university, the Student Scientific Society has been created and is functioning. The Society is a voluntary public association of students of the State University united based on common scientific interests.
The main goals of the society:
- a creation of conditions for the comprehensive and most complete development and realization of the creative and scientific potential of students;
- orientation of students to engage in research activities;
- professional orientation of the youth of the city and the region for scientific activity.
