Irkutsk State University
Irkutsk State University was founded in October 1918 in Irkutsk.
Nowadays Irkutsk State University is a large scientific and educational institution training students in humanities, natural, technical, and applied sciences. ISU facilities include 8 educational institutions, 11 faculties, and the scientific library which is one of the largest University libraries in Russia.
Among other facilities, Irkutsk State University has the Center for Advanced Training and Retraining, 3 research institutes, the Interregional Institute of Social Sciences, the Center for New Information Technologies, the Baikal Research and Education Center, the department for post-graduate and doctoral courses, scientific libraries, astronomical observatory, and botanic garden.
The University faculties and institutions are located in 14 educational buildings in Irkutsk. The majority of these buildings are of great historical and architectural value. They date back to the 18th-19th century. Senior students of all the faculties have specialized courses and internships in laboratories and scientific research institutions of ISU and the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

PREPARATORY FACULTY
The Preparatory Faculty for Foreign Citizens of the International Institute of Economics and Linguistics of the Irkutsk State University (PF MIEL IGU) invites you to study according to the following programs:
- Pre-university training for higher education in Russia and the ISU
- Improving the knowledge of the Russian language (Russian as a foreign language)
In the ISU, pre-university training of foreign citizens has been carried out since 1966 since the inception of the preparatory faculty.
The preparatory faculty for foreign citizens is equipped with modern equipment, has 3 computer classes, 4 multimedia classes, a language laboratory, 2 video halls, educational laboratories, specialized classrooms, as well as a library with a reading room, a sports complex, a student cafe, and a hostel.
Highly qualified teachers from 3 departments: Russian as a foreign language, natural disciplines, and socio-economic disciplines provide training for foreign citizens to study in Russia and the ISU. All teachers have many years of experience working with foreign citizens, own modern innovative technologies, and are authors of textbooks and teaching aids.
BAIKAL INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS SCHOOL
The Baikal International Business School (Institute), BIBS for short, is a subdivision of the Irkutsk State University (ISU). The School focuses on the development and implementation of international educational projects in the field of business and management.
The Business School’s mission: To spearhead the process of accumulating and ongoing upgrading knowledge in the area of business and management in Eastern Siberia; to develop and contribute to business culture and competitive market relationships in the region; to foster and maintain a corporate culture in an ever-changing environment.

THE LAW INSTITUTE
The Law Institute of the Irkutsk State University is one of the oldest law schools in Russia and is the leader of legal education in Eastern Siberia. The history of the law institute at Irkutsk State University dates back to 1918 – the year when Irkutsk University was founded. At first, it consisted of just two faculties: the Law Faculty and the History-Philology faculty.
Throughout its 90-year history, the Law Institute has educated thousands of law experts who currently work in various government bodies, law enforcement authorities, judicial bodies, advocacies, customs, tax bodies, and in law firms.

To make the teaching and learning process more interesting and successful many classes are held in specialized auditoria designed for interactive learning: the Courtroom, Auditorium of Roman Law, Museum of Criminology, the forensic testing ground, the Legal Clinic, and free-access Internet classrooms. In addition, there are several places where the students can relax from studying: a two-storied cozy cafe, a large sport facility, and several tennis courts.
ISU LIBRARY
The library’s book collection is one of the largest in Siberia and the Far East with approximately 3 million items in Russian and other foreign languages. There are 11 lending library branches with academic, research, non-fiction, and fiction material, 14 reading halls with academic and reference materials, an information center, the department of book studies, and cultural-historical education, in addition to other divisions and services.
The “golden” collection consists of many rare books and manuscripts.
The library is a partner in several projects that create a national digital database allowing students to access many books digitally from their homes. While preserving and expanding the library’s collections, the library offers a wide array of electronic resources.

ACCOMMODATION
The University campus has spacious student residences and offers both permanent and short-term accommodation. The hostel has fully equipped shared showers and toilets and he has two kitchens on each floor of the hostel. Students have access to classrooms, TV rooms, computer labs, free WiFi, self-service laundry, and other student-focused services.
Standard rooms have 2-4 beds.
