FEFU is the bearer of traditions of Russian classical culture, science, and education. Far Eastern Federal University has its origins in 1899 at the time when the Oriental Institute was founded in Vladivostok.

Today FEFU is the only classical university in Eastern Russia. It incorporates Schools with generations-old traditions and areas of research that form the core of our intellectual base.

One of the FEFU’s advantages is its geographic location in the center of the Asia Pacific region, which is now one of the most dynamically developing parts of the world. This place is the second pole of world civilization, which includes the leading counties of the globe, such as China, the United States, Japan, and India, and many world-famed metropolitan cities, such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Seoul.

Institute of Oriental Studies – School of Regional and International Studies

SCHOOL OF BIOMEDICINE

The School develops educational programs in medicine, biomedicine, pharmacy, biotechnical systems, and nutritional and biological technologies. It strives to introduce the achievements of fundamental sciences into practical medicine, develop translational medicine technologies, and educate future leading specialists in biomedicine.

FEFU MEDICAL CENTER

The Center will provide specialized high-tech medical diagnostics, treatment, and rehabilitation services for people of the Russian Far East and other countries.

The Clinic includes 11 medical departments, specializing in neurology and neurosurgery, traumatology, orthopedics, endoprosthetic replacement and reconstructive surgery, otolaryngology; uronephrology, surgery, therapy, rehabilitation, interventional cardiology, child health, women’s health, resuscitation, and intensive care.

The other subdivisions of the Clinic include policlinics for adults and children and a hospital with 200 beds. This hospital will have several sections: surgical, pediatric, therapeutic, daycare, and intensive care. Each section provides single and double comfortable rooms. A rehabilitation center with a 100-room hotel will be an integral part of the clinic.

The Surgery Section of the Center includes seven modern operating rooms. A unique surgery robot has been already installed in one of them. This robot, DAVINCI, can be remotely operated by a surgeon.

The specialized operating rooms are equipped for cardiac surgery, X-ray controlled vascular, cardio and neuron-manipulations, trauma surgery and neurosurgical procedures, and emergency shock treatment.

SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT

The School is the largest academic subdivision of FEFU in terms of the number of faculty, students, and international degree programs.

RESEARCH

Far Eastern Federal University possesses a unique research and training potential as it employs highly qualified scholars and faculty and has state-of-the-art lab facilities. At the present moment, University scholars conduct research in advanced fields of science, such as for instance nanotechnologies, submersible robotics, and energy effectiveness.

Principles of the FEFU Innovation Policy:

• Projects for technological enterprises involving both the students of FEFU and the gifted youth all over the Russian Far East;
• Development of co-financed youth programs by the cooperation of FEFU and partner enterprises;
• Development of patronized youth programs by means of partner enterprises;
• Education programs designed to teach skills required to work at partner enterprises;
• Marketing products of small innovative enterprises.

LIBRARY

FEFU’s library history dates back to 1899. Initially, it increased its unique holdings thanks to gifts from other Russian universities, private book collections, scholarly works by professors of the Institute of Oriental Studies as well as rare editions brought at international expeditions or ordered from Berlin, Shanghai, Tokyo, and other cities.

Today FEFU holds over 2 million volumes in Russian, German, English, French, Korean, Japanese, Arabic, Czech, Spanish, and many other languages dating from the 16th – 21st centuries. Full-text online access is provided to thousands of worldwide journals via 71 national and international e-databases. FEFU was among the first in Russia to have installed the automated library system Virtua (VTLS Corporation).

STUDENT ACCOMMODATION

FEFU Hotel Complex at Russky Island offers students different accommodation options in the dormitory rooms where they can study, get rest and meet with their friends.

Dormitory rooms have all the required furniture items already installed. Bedding items are given to the students at their check-in. Rooms are cleaned by maintainable personnel every week.

Every floor of each dormitory building has kitchen areas for students’ individual cooking with all the required kitchen equipment installed. Besides, the dormitory buildings are equipped with laundry rooms for students’ individual washing.

The following accommodation options are available for the FEFU students: double rooms, two-room suites for 3 tenants, and two-room suites for 4 tenants.
