East Siberian State Technological University
History
On June 19, 1962, by order of the Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the RSFSR, the East Siberian Institute of Technology was organized on the basis of the technological and construction departments of the Buryat Agricultural Institute.
The institute began the first academic year of 1962/63 with the training of engineers in three technical specialties: “Industrial and civil construction”, “Leather and fur technology”, “Meat and meat products technology”, but in connection with the expansion of the institute, new specialties were opened, such as “Technology of mechanical engineering” (1964), “Economics and organization of the food industry” (1964), “Technology and design of leather products” (1972), “Production of building products and structures” (1986) and others. In the tenth year of the university (1972), 485 teachers worked at the institute, 134 of them with academic degrees and titles. The number of students also increased significantly: if in 1962 there were 766 students in the daytime, evening and correspondence departments, then in the 1972/73 academic year there were already 8006 students in all faculties.
By the 25th anniversary of the VSTI (1987), 10 doctors of sciences and professors, 318 candidates of sciences, associate professors already worked at the institute. At that time, our institute took the 1st place in terms of the number of teachers with academic degrees and titles among all universities in Eastern Siberia and the Far East. 3,750 people studied at the full-time department in 14 specialties, 3,734 students at the correspondence department in 14 specialties, and 287 students at the evening department in 5 specialties. Over the 25 years of its existence, the university has trained 21,508 engineers, including 14,894 full-time students, 3,964 evening students, and 2,649 part-time students. 761 graduates received diplomas with honors. By this time, there were practically no enterprises in the republic of industry, construction, energy, vehicles, agro-industrial complex, wherever our graduates worked.
By 1997, the university had 7 faculties (MTFLP, MTFPP, SF, MF, IEF, ETF, TSEGIGO), where 823 people studied full-time in 6 areas of undergraduate studies, 3595 people – in 32 specialties, and 23 people – in absentia in one direction of bachelor’s degree and 2049 people – in 22 specialties. The educational process at the university was provided by 594 teachers, of which 385 people had academic degrees and titles (64.8%), including 48 doctors of sciences, professors (8.5%).
The level of achievements of the university in the field of science and education was evidenced by the fact that among the teaching staff 31 teachers were awarded honorary titles of the Russian Federation, and more than 115 – of the Republic of Buryatia. In public academies, including three international ones, the university is represented by 13 full members and 10 corresponding members. 11 employees received state and other awards.
The University has successfully developed and turned into the largest scientific and educational complex in Siberia and the Far East, which occupies one of the leading places in the system of higher education in Russia. In the period from 1997 to 2011, 4 buildings were built (No. 13 and 15 – educational buildings, No. 22 – an educational and sports complex, No. 11 – a cultural and leisure center), the total area of which is 11,572.4 sq.m., as well as a physical culture and sports complex, a student hostel; a library and information complex is being built. All educational and scientific laboratories are equipped with modern technological and testing equipment, devices, multimedia, projectors, computer classes.
About University
Today, the East Siberian State University of Technology and Management is a multidisciplinary educational, scientific and innovative complex with a well-developed infrastructure and a modern material and technical base, providing multi-level training of qualified specialists that meet modern requirements.
The university implements 110 areas of training, incl. 12 – under the programs of secondary vocational education, 47 – undergraduate, 6 – specialist, 29 – magistracy, 16 – postgraduate studies. More than 500 teachers work at the university, of which more than 70 are doctors of science, professors and about 400 people are candidates of science, associate professors. Over the years of its existence, the university has trained more than 70 thousand specialists for various sectors of the economy.
There are three institutes in ESSUTU (Institute of Food Engineering and Biotechnology, Institute of Economics and Law (as part of the Faculty of Economics and Management, Faculty of Law), Interregional Institute for Retraining Personnel), five faculties (Engineering, Construction, Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Ecology, Service, Technology and Design, Faculty of Professional Training), College of Technology.
The University is a participant in various projects for international educational programs, such as Erasmus + in various technological, economic and environmental areas. Contracts and agreements on cooperation in the field of higher, postgraduate, additional education were signed with universities in China, Mongolia, CIS countries, France, Israel, Turkey and other countries.
ESSUTU has a developed social infrastructure: 5 student dormitories, a cultural and leisure center with an auditorium for 450 seats, a scientific library with reading rooms equipped with a PC with Internet access, a sports complex (stadium, indoor athletics arena, halls for wrestling, boxing, game types sports hall, sports hall, outdoor areas), canteens and buffets in all buildings and dormitories, a cafe in a separate two-story building with two dining rooms for 300 seats, a sports and recreation camp “Rovesnik” for 200 seats (on the shore of Lake Baikal), houses recreation “Goryachinsk” (Lake Baikal) and “Arshan” (mineral springs in the foothills of the Eastern Sayan Mountains). Scientific library of ESSTUU with an area of 10800 sq.m. with a fund of more than 1 million volumes, has no analogues in Siberia and the Far East.
In 2010 – ESSUTU was awarded the diploma of the Laureate of the competition “Best Universities of Russia-2010” and included in the official register “National Quality Mark”.
In 2010, by the decision of the competition commission chaired by the Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Zh. Alferov, ESSUTU was awarded the Gold Medal and a diploma of the contest “100 Best Russian Organizations in the Field of Science and Education”.
From 2009-2019 The ESSUTU Student Sports Center became the winner of the regional competition in the field of sports “Golden Olympus”, in 2020 and 2021 it became the winner of the award.
In 2015 – an independent assessment of the quality of education based on certified accreditation pedagogical measuring materials (APIM), the Federal Internet Exam in the field of vocational education.
In 2017 – received the “Gold Medal” the highest rating of the international competition “The Best Goods and Services of GEMMA” based on the results of the conclusion of an independent expert commission.
In 2019 – successfully passed the state accreditation of educational activities in all areas of training being implemented.
Hostel
Campus is established on May 12, 1993, in order to meet public needs for non-resident and needy students in affordable housing and have the necessary conditions for living, self-study and recreation, sports and cultural events. Today, more than 1,300 students live on campus. Campus hostels have a housing stock for 1332 places.
At the campus there is a student council of self-government of the hostel. Student self-government in the hostel organizes students’ leisure (holidays, sports days, competitions, discos), participates in organizing assistance during subbotniks, monitors cleanliness and order in hostels, takes an active part in various republican and interregional events. The student council actively cooperates with the administration of the campus, assists in the settlement of students and in holding various events. The hostels of the campus have all the conditions for life, study and recreation.
Hostels have furnished rooms (beds, desk, dining table, wardrobe, bedside table, stool) for 2 and 3 people.
In the hostel for students are available: kitchens for self-cooking; bathroom, showers and mini laundry; rest rooms; classrooms, gym. Hostels are equipped with video surveillance systems, security and fire alarms.
