Don State Technical University
History
On May 14, 1930, the order of the People’s Commissar of Education No. 295 was issued on the creation of the North Caucasian Institute of Agricultural Engineering (NCIAE) on the basis of the mechanical faculty of the Don Polytechnic Institute. Opened on September 1, 1930, NCIAE became the only university in Russia that trains personnel for the agricultural engineering industry.
In 1935, the university was renamed the Rostov-on-Don Institute of Agricultural Engineering (RIAE). In connection with the territorial and administrative changes in the North Caucasus, the institute was repeatedly renamed during the first decade of its existence. Since 1947, having passed under the jurisdiction of the People’s Commissariat of Agricultural Engineering, and then the Ministry of Higher Education of the RSFSR, it again became known as the Rostov Institute of Agricultural Engineering, and this name was retained until 1992.
On December 24, 1992, the university was transformed into the Don State Technical University (DSTU).
In 2008, the Rostov State Academy of Agricultural Engineering became part of the DSTU.
On August 6, 2012, according to the order of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the South Russian State University of Economics and Service, along with its branches, was attached to DSTU.
On December 30, 2015, DSTU was merged with the Rostov State University of Civil Engineering.
In 2016, DSTU received the status of a flagship university in the Rostov region.
About University
Don State Technical University (DSTU) is the largest in the South of Russia, a dynamically developing scientific and educational complex. The university implements a system of continuous education that combines the concept of early creative development of the individual and the practical professional training of the graduate. The university involves a five-year-old child in the educational process and graduates a professional who is ready to join the production process immediately after receiving a diploma.
More than 40 thousand students study at DSTU, more than 100 areas of training for undergraduate, specialist, master’s, postgraduate and doctoral studies are being implemented.
DSTU, which in recent years has been actively opening new departments, expanding the list of subjects and specialties, is forming an extensive network of partnerships, trying to cover the changing labor market as much as possible and satisfy the need of key enterprises in the region for highly qualified personnel. Since 2002, the basic departments have been functioning at the university, created in cooperation with the largest enterprises in the region. Thanks to this, the best practices of leading companies in their industry are included in the educational process, and the content of training courses meets the current and future needs of the region’s economy and society. Students receive a guaranteed job after graduation, and the best of them receive an additional nominal scholarship from enterprises.
Today DSTU has 19 basic departments. Among the partners of the university are the largest companies in the South of Russia: PJSC Rostvertol, CJSC Mediagroup Southern Region, LLC PK NEVZ, LLC KZ Rostselmash. The share of DSTU graduates in the staff of enterprises with which basic departments are opened reaches 80%.
The development of scientific activity is a priority for the flagship university. Small innovative enterprises operate in DSTU, modern laboratories have been opened, including those with research equipment that is unique in Russia. There are a number of research sites on the territory of the university, where young scientists implement projects focused on practical application, which subsequently find their customers.
The structure of DSTU includes industrial coworking “Garage”, which provides Don innovators with free access to equipment and advisory support from the scientific community of the university. The coworking space has all the conditions for the implementation of their own projects: residents can take advantage of expert support, create a prototype on university equipment, seek the help of specialists to promote their own product and reach investors.
For many years, the university has been one of the largest centers in the Russian Federation for the preparation of foreign citizens to study at Russian universities. Every year 2,000 foreign students study at DSTU. Within the framework of international cooperation, interaction with 60 countries is being implemented.
The university has programs to support and develop talented youth. Students receive everything necessary for cultural and sports leisure – they visit a recreation center on the Black Sea coast, a sports and recreation complex with a swimming pool, classes in creative studios and groups.
The infrastructure of the university includes 26 educational and laboratory buildings, 10 dormitories, a sports and recreation complex with a swimming pool, an athletics arena, a congress hall, a church of St. Tatiana, complex “Rainbow” on the Black Sea coast, two recreation centers. The infrastructure of the university continues to develop. The campus and educational and laboratory buildings are being modernized, and it is planned to build dormitories for students and an apartment building for employees.
DSTU development program for 2016-2020 provides for a comprehensive modernization of educational, innovative and scientific activities, the university management system, educational and research infrastructure, the implementation of human resources, active participation in the development of local communities, urban and regional environment.
The University is one of the largest centers in the Russian Federation for the preparation of foreign citizens to study at Russian universities. More than 1000 foreign students study at the university every year. Within the framework of international cooperation, interaction with 58 countries is being implemented.
Hostel
The campus of the Don State Technical University is one of the largest structural divisions of the university.
The structure of the campus includes 10 hostels, they are home to more than 5,500 students from 67 countries, 63 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, the registration sector for residents living in hostels, and the welfare service.
The room can accommodate 2-4 students. In each wing of the hostel there are: a kitchen, a washroom, a shower room and a bathroom. Also in the hostel buildings there is a room for self-study; rest room “Comfort”; student council room of the hostel; room for self-study; auditorium; gym for men and women; table tennis; psychological relaxation room
