Bryansk State Technical University
History
Bryansk State Technical University (BSTU) was organized on the basis of the workers’ faculty in 1929. Over the past years, the university has become a well-known technical university in Russia and abroad, within the walls of which more than 36 thousand engineers and scientists have been trained for various sectors of the national economy.
On December 11, 1929, the first admission to the first year of the educated institute was announced in the specialty: hot and cold metal working, foundry, locomotive building, machine tool building, refrigeration units, hoisting and transport installations, car building.
The Council of People’s Commissars decided: “To allow the Supreme Economic Council of the USSR to organize in 1930 in the city of Bezhitsa, Bryansk District, a new type of technical college – the Bezhitsk Machine-Building Institute for the training of mechanical engineers”
In 1932, 4 specialties were approved at the institute: “Carriage building”, “Metal pressure treatment”, “Cold metal cutting”, “Foundry”. A little later – “Steam building”.
In the period 1936-1944 the Institute was called the Ordzhonikidzegrad Machine-Building Institute. On January 27, 1944, by order of the Council of People’s Commissars, the institute became known as the Bezhitsk Mechanical Engineering Institute. In the same year, the re-evacuation of the institute from the Urals began. On August 26, the university began work in Bezhitsa. During the work in Nizhny Tagil from 01.10.1941 to July 1944, the institute graduated 147 engineers, including 40 mechanical engineers with a degree in tank building.
Since the mid-60s, a tradition has arisen at the university to begin the new academic year with the ritual of initiation into students with the presentation of a symbolic Gradebook and lighting the Torch of Knowledge.
In 1992, the Bryansk Regional Center for New Information Technologies was created on the basis of the ACS BITM.
In 1995, the university was attested by the expert commission of the Association of Technical Universities of Russia and by order of the State Committee for Higher Education of December 28, 1995, it was renamed Bryansk State Technical University.
On May 17, 2011, by order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the state educational institution of higher professional education “Bryansk State Technical University” was renamed the federal state budgetary educational institution of higher professional education “Bryansk State Technical University”.
In April 2015, the Engineering Center in the field of high-tech mechanical engineering “High-tech Engineering” was created at BSTU. The main purpose of the functioning of the Center is to organize the activities of the specialized structural divisions of the university to carry out research and development and engineering projects in the interests of JSC Karachev Plant Elektrodetal, as well as other manufacturing companies, improve and develop the design, technological, engineering and scientific infrastructure of the university, capable of solving the tasks facing before high-tech industries, advanced training of BSTU employees and the quality of education of students.
In 2016, the university took 127th place in Russia in the international ranking of universities ARES-2016, conducted by the European Scientific and Industrial Chamber. According to the rating results, Bryansk State Technical University was assigned category “B”, which implies a reliable quality of teaching, scientific activity and demand for graduates by employers.
About University
Currently, BSTU is a multidisciplinary university that trains masters in 9 areas, specialists in 44 specialties and bachelors in 18 areas of higher professional education and 11 specialties of secondary vocational education in the full-time department, 2 specialties in the full-time department, 20 specialties in the correspondence department and 9 specialties of the second higher education. In 12 specialties, specialists are trained in a shortened time frame for persons with secondary specialized education.
Education is conducted in full-time, part-time and part-time forms of education. The university has a regional center for advanced training and retraining of specialists, a center for distance learning, a regional center for new information technologies, a branch of the research center for quality problems in training specialists, a research sector, branch research laboratories, small scientific and technical enterprises and other structural divisions.
The educational process at the university is provided by highly qualified teaching staff. Of more than 400 teachers working at the university, 30 are doctors of science, professors, about 260 candidates of science, associate professors. Among the teachers of the university there are 6 honored scientists of the Russian Federation, 15 honored workers of higher education and industries, 16 honored workers of higher professional education, 7 honorary workers of the gas industry, 20 full members and corresponding members of various international and industry academies.
Hostels
The university has 5 hostels for students. The check-in of students of the university in the hostels of BSTU is carried out for the entire period of study. About 1000 students, including foreign students, live in student dormitories of the university every year. The rooms have all the necessary furniture: bed, wardrobe, table, chairs, etc. 2-4 students can accommodate in one room. Also, in the hostel there are kitchens for self-cooking, a bathroom and shower rooms.
Work with students in student dormitories is organized by the deans of faculties, directorates of institutes and the administration of the Polytechnic College of BSTU. The coordinators of work in student dormitories are student councils of dormitories, acting on the basis of the Regulations on student dormitories of BSTU and the Internal Regulations of student dormitories of BSTU.
