For more than half a century of existence, the university has deserved a reputation and a rank as the northern outpost of science and education in the Irkutsk Region. Justifying the status of classical university we try to give students universal, up-to-date knowledge, to prepare them for successful activity in a new competitive environment.

The multilevel system of training and a large number of educational programs provide a wide range of specialist training. At the same time, the institution of higher education continues to hold a high level of education quality.

FACULTY OF POWER ENGINEERING AND AUTOMATION

The Faculty of Power Engineering and Automation (FPEA) is one of the oldest at Bratsk State University. It has three specialized departments: Electrical Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering, Industrial Heat-and-Power Engineering, and Management in Technical Systems carrying out multi-level training of specialists in four training courses. 23 specialized laboratories, modern lecture audiences with multimedia software, a library, and display classes are at the disposal of students of the faculty. During the reconstruction of the 1st educational building, modern laboratory equipment in the amount of more than 50 million rubles was purchased. The upgrading and development of the laboratory facilities are annually carried out.

The Corporate Educational and Research Center “Irkutskenergo — BRGU” is oriented to the training of highly professional specialists in the additional educational programs considering specific conditions and tasks of Irkutskenergo company has been effectively working at the faculty since 2011. After training at the CERC employment at the power enterprises of PJSC “Irkutskenergo” is guaranteed to students.

MECHANICAL FACULTY

The Mechanical Faculty (MF) is the age-mate of the university. It was founded in 1980 and now integrates four departments: Motor transport; Lifting-Handling, Road-Building Machinery, and Equipment; Department of Machine-Building Technology, Technologies of Mechanical Engineering; Engineering science, Mechanics, and Engineering Graphics. The basic principles of training at the faculty are based on the use of both traditional, and new educational technologies providing high theoretical and practical training for the specialists. The departments of the faculty have the latest software and laboratory base at the level of the leading higher educational institutions in the country. The students receive practical skills in working on modern domestic and foreign equipment. The faculty students do their practical work at large industrial enterprises of the region and the country, including JSC RUSAL Bratsk, Ilim group (branch in Bratsk and Bratsk region), PJSC “KAMAZ” (Naberezhnye Chelny), LLC Transneft — the East, at the plants of the Ford Sollers company (Yelabuga), at the dealer center Caterpillar (Irkutsk).

The graduates of the faculty work in engineering and executive positions for the centers Caterpillar, Nissan, Mitsubishi, and VOLVO, for the oil and gas companies, and also for industrial enterprises of the region, large or medium-sized companies, in small businesses.

FACULTY OF ECONOMY AND MANAGEMENT

The Faculty of Economy and Management (FEM) was created in 2004 as a result of the reorganization of the Economics and Engineering Faculty. Three specialized departments are part of the faculty: Economy and Management, Management and Information Technologies, and Public and Municipal Administration. The FEM teaching staff is a perfect combination of successful specialists with high scientific, practical, and pedagogical training and young scientists as well.

Nowadays FEM has a powerful educational structure with developed material and technical facilities and high scientific and personnel potential. At the faculty, there is a multilevel system of reliable and efficient training of highly qualified personnel. The educational process organically combines traditional and innovative (interactive and distant) technologies and training methods, at the same time a range of educational services of the faculty is extended from year to year.

To improve the practical training of the bachelors at the faculty cooperation with the enterprises and the organizations is being carried out.

SCIENTIFIC WORK

BrSU is one of the largest university complexes in the northern territories of the Irkutsk region and the BAM zone, effectively combining educational, scientific, and innovative activities.

Innovative projects are regularly presented at exhibitions, fairs, and presentations of various levels. Thus, university scientists take an active part in the work of the annual international specialized exhibition “SibWoodExpo”, organizing scientific and practical conferences and thematic round tables.

The relevance and practical significance of the scientific and innovative activities of the Bratsk State University make it possible to create key platforms for the development of science-intensive business, improve the qualifications of scientific and pedagogical staff, modernize the scientific and technical base, produce high-tech products that are in demand in the region using the developments of leading scientists of the university complex.

EMPLOYMENT

As part of its activities, the RCST FSBEI HE “BrGU” fruitfully cooperates with the administration of the city of Bratsk, the State Public Institution of Public Employment Center of the city of Bratsk, enterprises, and organizations of the Irkutsk region. Thus, together with the Center for Employment of the City of Bratsk, the Regional Center for the Promotion of Employment of Students and Employment of Graduates of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education “BrSU” annually holds “Job Fairs” for graduates of our university. The practice of holding such events shows that graduates need to receive legal advice, acquire the knowledge necessary for an effective job search, obtain information about the availability of vacancies in enterprises, as well as information about trends in the formation of demand for specialists in the region.

This event is aimed at improving the efficiency of employment of young professionals after graduation.

Every year, more than 250 graduates of BrSU graduates visit the “Job Fair”, which presents the following:

• analysis of the situation in the labor markets of the city of Bratsk and the Irkutsk region;
• information about the services of the Center for Employment of the City of Bratsk;
• information about the activities of the Center for Promotion of Employment of the University;
• familiarization with the current labor legislation of the Russian Federation;
• consultations with a psychologist-professional consultant and a lawyer.

Such events are very interesting: students and graduates are taught the principles of written forms of self-presentation – writing resumes and essays. According to the results of such work, during the days of the “Job Fairs,” more than 100 graduates receive offers from employers for employment.

ACCOMMODATION

The successful location of the buildings necessary for the educational process and accommodation allows for improved working conditions, life, and rest of students. Each dormitory has service and auxiliary premises equipped with modern household appliances, kitchens and laundry places, rooms for independent studies, rest, and sports rooms.

The active stand in the life of the student council of the dormitories helps to diversify student’s life, thinking out new and different methods, and work forms, thereby expanding the plan of joint activity with the trade-union committee of students.

STUDENT LIFE

Social-economic and legal protection of students is one of the main tasks of the trade-union organization of students.

The important direction in the work of the trade-union organization is students’ upbringing by attracting them to vigorous socially useful activities, and creation of conditions for receiving full higher education. In its work, the trade-union organization is guided by the corresponding normative legal documents and legal acts of the Government of the Russian Federation.

The main areas of work on the social-economic and legal protection of students are implemented through the directions:
