Belgorod State University was established at 1876 in Belgorod city. Belgorod is one of the most beautiful and ancient cities of the Russian Federation. All the necessary facilities are located very closely to the student’s campuses. The University itself is located in the downtown area, it takes some minutes to get to the center of the city by foot.

Firstly, it was grounded as Teacher’s Training Institute. In 1919, the University was reorganized into Belgorod Pedagogical Institute and in a year – in Belgorod Institute of Education. In 1923, Belgorod Institute of Education was restructured into Pedagogical College. In 1939, the University was reorganized to Belgorod State Pedagogical Institute.In 1967, Belgorod State Pedagogical Institute was named after MS Olminskogo. In 1994, the Institute became the Pedagogical University. In July 1996, Belgorod State Pedagogical University named after M. Olminskogo, Faculty of Financial and Economic Institute of the Russian State Committee for Higher Education and the Medical College of Belgorod in Belgorod region were united into one educational establishment, which nowadays is known as Belgorod State University.

In 2004, was established clinic of medical-preventive medicine. At this clinic, students, academy staff of the University can get services.

In 2010, it was the only University in the Russian Federation awarded the status of National Research University. Currently, the University is at the 16th position among 29 National Research Universities of the Russian Federation. In 2012, Belgorod State University was included in the list of top 30 Universities of Russia. The University offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The University has 2 branches, 98 departments and 74 research centers and laboratories. Nowadays, students from 76 foreign countries study at Belgorod State University. Total amount of the students, who get education at Belgorod State University, is more than 28,000 students. Academic staff consists of 1931 person. In 2013, Belgorod State University accepted 9 Associates and Members of Russian Academy of Sciences as new teaching staff members.

Belgorod State University is continuously growing and developing. The University closely collaborates with other higher educational institutions on different levels: regional, national and international. The research team of the University was recognized in the ranking of National Research Universities by the Ministry of Education and Science.

At present, Belgorod State University holds the 21-st position among of 1,197 Institutions of the Russian Federation. The University is at the 1,868-th position out of 15,000 Institutions of the World in the Webometrics Ranking of Russian Universities by Cybermetrix Research Group.

Accommodation:

The University offers 6 hostels for students. Students are offered different types of rooms: twin – and triple- rooms. Facilities for students are organized on sharing basis, these are bathrooms and kitchens. All the rooms are supplied with the Internet access, cable TV and telephone. Recreation areas are available for those students, who are willing to find new friends. Students are also offered special dance floor for mass dancing events.
