Belgorod State Technological University

History

In 1954, on the basis of the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR No. 797, the Technological Institute of Building Materials was organized in Belgorod.

In 1979, the university was named after I. A. Grishmanov, who in the 60-70s was the Minister of Industry of Building Materials of the USSR.

In April 1994, the institute was renamed Belgorod State Technological Academy of Building Materials.

In 2002, the university successfully passed early accreditation. In March 2003 he received university status.

Soon the university was named after Vladimir Grigoryevich Shukhov, our brilliant fellow countryman, who during his lifetime was called the Russian Edison and “the first engineer of the Russian Empire.” The polytechnic activity of Vladimir Grigorievich manifested itself in ingenious engineering developments related to the most diverse fields, which remain relevant even a hundred years later. The monument to V. G. Shukhov on the square of the university reminds students of the great deeds of the sons of Russia, that the motherland still needs talented engineers.

BSTU is the largest specialized university in Russia in the field of building materials and construction industry, which confidently occupies a worthy place in the world educational and scientific space. On the territory of 35 hectares, a modern university complex has been created with well-equipped educational and laboratory buildings, an experimental production base, a scientific and technical library, a sports complex, a Student Palace of Culture, dormitories for students and residential buildings for teachers, a catering plant.

Over its more than sixty years of history, the status of the university has increased significantly, but the main direction of its work has remained unchanged: the training of highly qualified specialists for the construction industry.

About University

Belgorod State Technological University is the flagship university in Russia and is included in the ranking of the best technical universities and the top 100 universities in Russia.

BSTU is: more than 16 thousand students – two thousands of them are foreigners. These are: 45 scientific schools, 43 departments, 9 institutes. Education in Russian and English.

Developments of BSTU are used at the enterprises of the nuclear industry – at the Kursk, Leningrad and Smolensk nuclear power plants. This is the purification of water from nuclear power plants from radioisotopes and radionuclides, the disposal of spent nuclear fuel from reactors in industrial containers (industrial TUK-109 for spent nuclear fuel from a nuclear power plant reactor with RBMK-1000) and radiation-protective assemblies filled with concrete to protect personnel who are in the reactor room.

For the project for the production of animal protein and lipid concentrate from the larvae of black soldier fly BSTU developed a high-tech production line. The project partners are LLC “Agroakademia” and the Institute of Ecology and Evolution named after A.N. Severtsov of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow). The project is being implemented as part of the program of the world-class scientific and educational center “Innovative solutions in the agro-industrial complex” of the Belgorod region. This comprehensive high-tech production project also received support under Government Decree No. 218.

A high-tech center is successfully operating at BSTU, where several digital modeling laboratories have been created in the sector of construction and operation of buildings, structures, engineering and transport systems: BIM, virtual and augmented realities, artificial intelligence and neural networks. They are equipped with high-performance computing, modeling power and unique equipment for high-precision spatial scanning of real world objects.

The territory of BSTU is a modern campus with educational and laboratory buildings, an experimental production base, a library, a developed structure of housing for teachers and students, a catering plant, a palace of culture and sports facilities. There is a sanatorium, a health center and a recreation center.

Education at the university is multilevel and multidisciplinary. You can enter the university in 40 areas of undergraduate, 11 specialty, 32 areas of magistracy, 15 areas of postgraduate studies, 6 areas of secondary vocational education. Students can study in full-time, part-time and part-time forms, including using distance learning technologies.

Cooperation agreements have been signed with a number of leading foreign universities. There is a preparatory faculty for foreign citizens. Professional education is carried out under the program of double diplomas.

The material and technical base of the sports complex is one of the best in Russia. This is a modern stadium, game halls, sports grounds, tennis courts, two swimming pools, 40 sports sections. Two gaming halls, a shooting range, a stadium and a swimming pool are included in the All-Russian Register of Sports Facilities.

The scientific and technical library has the richest fund – more than 1.5 million copies of books. These are scientific, educational, methodical, reference and fiction literature, normative and technical documentation. The electronic library of the university has more than 6,000 titles of electronic intra-university publications. There is access to remote Russian and foreign electronic educational resources, more than 200,000 electronic educational and scientific publications are available to teachers and students of the university.

There are 53 creative associations in the student palace of culture: groups, studios, circles in various directions, evenings of rest, competitions, concerts, festivals, KVN games, discos and much more are held.

Hostels

Everyone is given the opportunity to live in a hostel. USZhK “Tekhnolog” begins its history practically with the creation of BSTU itself. Today, students, graduate students, employees, as well as married couples live in four comfortable student hostels.

It has all the necessary conditions for a comfortable and safe stay. Each block, which combines four to five rooms, is equipped with a kitchen with a gas or electric stove, where you can cook. Toilet, bathroom or showers allow you to maintain sanitary living conditions, take care of personal hygiene. Gas, electrical and plumbing equipment is constantly updated. Every year, the university carries out cosmetic repairs of the premises, replacement of furniture and linen with new ones.

A public catering system has been established on the territory of the university campus. Each hostel has a canteen, buffet or cafe where you can have a delicious and inexpensive lunch. In the shops located on campus, you can buy the necessary products.

Here, students can also solve other everyday problems: there is a shoe repair shop, laundry and dry cleaning, and luggage storage.

The necessary conditions for successful study have been created. The hostel has a computer network connected to a local network with Internet access, which allows you to install a computer in each room. There is an internet cafe on campus.

There is a library with a reading room, where there is all the literature necessary for studying and broadening one’s horizons. This opens up wide opportunities for self-education and successful study.

A security system has been created in the dormitories, there is a police station and a room for the operational police assistance detachment, where measures are taken to suppress offenses.

The hostels have gyms for sports. On the territory of the campus there are sports grounds, a power camp, courts, one of the best stadiums of the Chernozem region universities.
