Astrakhan State Medical Academy was established at 1918. The city is situated on the banks of River Volga. Climate in the city is warm. There is connection with Moscow by air, rail and river routes. Astrakhan State Medical Academy is one of the oldest and the most prestigious Medical Academies in Russia. In November 2008, the Academy celebrated 90th anniversary. Astrakhan State Medical Academy is recognized by the World Health Organization and it is included in the list of World Directory of Medical Schools.

In 2009 and 2010, Astrakhan State Medical Academy was awarded with a prestigious Certificate “European Quality”, with a golden medal “100 best Russian State Universities” (of 3600 Russian universities). Also, in 2009 the Federal center of cardiovascular surgery was founded in Astrakhan. On the basis of this center, there were created two sub-faculties – “Cardiology” and “Cardiovascular surgery”. Great attention is paid to the educational process. There are different kinds of students clubs, where the students may take up various creative activities.  What is more, at Astrakhan State Medical Academy is established student club. During a very short period of time, there was made 3500 successful operations, 2000 of which were made on the stopped heart.

More than 30000 thousand doctors have graduated from Astrakhan State Medical Academy. Astrakhan State Medical Academy uses the European system of medical education. This system combines strong theoretical grounding in different spheres of knowledge with practical courses held in the best medical institutions of Astrakhan.

All clinics, where students have medical practice, are equipped with modern equipment.

Now, students, who have graduated from Astrakhan State Medical Academy, are working in Russia and abroad.

Accommodation

While studying, all the students are provided with comfortable places for living in hostels for students. There are bathrooms, lavatories and kitchens for students in the hostels. Students’ hostels are closely situated to the Academy, it will take students some minutes to get there by foot.
