    Altai State University (the city of Barnaul, the south of Western Siberia, Russia) is a federal state budget educational establishment of higher professional education.

    Altai State University, founded in 1973, is a university in Barnaul, Russia. The University was established after great work undertaken by the Altai Regional Committee of the Party. First Secretary of the Regional Committee of the Communist Party Alexander Georgiev, in his memo on «The organization of the Altai State University» to the Ministry of Higher Education of the Soviet Union on Dec. 6, 1972 grounded the need of a new institution of higher education in the Altai region with multi-instruction, because the region urgently needed highly qualified specialists.

    Today the University is:

    – one of the biggest educational and scientific centers of Siberia, a participant of the QS University Rankings: BRICS and a participant of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization University;

    – one of the most inviting universities in Siberia for international and out-of-town students (the opportunity of the free education for international students; 191 agreements with foreign universities; the percentage of the international students is 8% and this amount annually grows by 50%).

    University research priorities are early diagnosis of cancer, production of medicines, bioengineering, agricultural biotechnology, space monitoring and computer engineering, archeology and biodiversity. ASU is the basic ground of: the Russian-American Anti-Cancer Center, which was created in collaboration with the Arizona State University, 16 innovative Laboratories under the supervision of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the 5th meeting of Ministers of Education of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries in 2014, and the meetings of the Association of Asian Universities, which includes 28 Asian universities (www.aauniv.org).

    Altai State University has the following departments: Arts, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, History, Law, Mathematics and IT, Mass Communication, Philology and Political Science, Physics and Technology, Education and Psychology, Sociology and International Institute of Economics, Management and Informational Systems.

    The university has affiliates in Biysk, Belokurikha, Kamen-na-Obi, Rubtsovsk, Slavgorod, and Mikhailovskoe, all in Altai Krai.

    Altai State University (ASU) being one of the most important center of academic education and research, and socio-cultural complex in Siberia and the Far East serves to provide a distinguished learning environment for undergraduate and graduate students in many scholarly and professional fields meeting the needs of modern knowledge-based post-industrial society, and contributing to the development of the region.
