    National Research Tomsk State University

    Tomsk University became the first higher educational institution in Siberia and the ninth in Russia.

    The National Research Tomsk State University, founded in 1878 by Alexander II as the Imperial Siberian University, from the first day of its existence, was called upon to affirm the ideals of science, education and culture in the vast territory of the Asian part of the country.

    National Research Tomsk State University, as a research-type university, sees its mission in preserving and increasing the spiritual values ​​of mankind, in obtaining and disseminating advanced knowledge and information, in advanced training of the intellectual elite of society based on the integration of the educational process, fundamental scientific research and innovative approaches.

    In 2005, the university received a certificate from the National Quality Assurance company on the compliance of the quality management system of TSU with the international standard ISO 9001: 2000.

    Tomsk State University was admitted to the European University Association (EUA) in 2006. One of 17 universities – winners of the First All-Russian Competition for Innovative Educational Programs. As a result of the successful implementation of an innovative educational program (2006-2007), TSU has significantly accelerated its development as a research-type university – a leading regional educational, scientific and innovative complex, integrated into the real sector of the economy, the service sector and society.

    In 2010, Tomsk State University was awarded the category “National Research University”.

    Since 2019, TSU is the leader of the world’s largest network SecNet for the study of the unique scientific installation “MegaInstallation” in Siberia

    First place in the “5-100” project in terms of the number of RAS medals for students.

    Preparatory Department

    Preparatory courses can prepare students for future studies anywhere all over Russia. It is important that you are not only going to study the language alone. Each semester, a student’s academic advisor guides them through courses in a wide variety of fields such as biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, neuroscience, and various interdisciplinary fields such as biomedical engineering and entrepreneurship.

    This is an interdisciplinary program, where students will develop understanding of all aspects of human development, including biological foundations of individual differences, gene-environment processes, brain mechanisms, cognitive and other psychological processes.

    • Biophotonics

    Biophotonics is an interdisciplinary program that offers advanced training at the interface between Laser Optics and Cell Biology. Scientists and technologists need multidisciplinary knowledge to develop and apply cutting-edge optical techniques to fundamental and open questions in Bioscience and Biotechnology.

    • Information technologies in science and instrument engineering

    The program is designed for specialists able and willing to carry out research projects in the field of Complex Information Systems and Technologies.

    • Biodiversity

    This program presents a comprehensive overview of the science about biological diversity, ecology, evolution and dynamics, and of the methods for diversity analysis, calculation and estimation. It covers both practical and theoretical issues of the topic.

    TSU student hostels

    Tomsk State University has six student hostels, which are home to more than five thousand students. All dormitories of the university are distributed between faculties (institutes) and fixed as basic by order of the rector.

    Accommodation in a hostel occurs after enrolment, when the applicant becomes a freshman at Tomsk State University. Foreign and non-resident students are always provided with a hostel.

    The hostels have: kitchens equipped with electric stoves, toilet and wash rooms, showers, changing rooms, a study room, a sports room, a dining room, living sections are partially equipped with washing machines, a laundry room, a storage room.
